JAMARCUS RUSSELL'S 2006 SEASON AND IT'S PLACE IN LSU HISTORY

Passing yards= 2nd most in lsu history
Passing tds= 1st in lsu history
Completions=1st in lsu history
Completion %= 1st in lsu history
Jamarcus Russell's career at lsu
Compiled a 25-4 mark as LSU’s starting quarterback ... The 25 wins ties with Warren Rabb as the third-highest total in LSU history ... Ranked second all-time at LSU in career completion percentage (61.9) and career touchdown passes (52) ... Also ranks third in career completions (493) and career passing yards (6,625) and fourth in career attempts (797) ... Is just the fourth player in school history to go over the 6,000 yard mark in total offense (6,704 yards) ... Capped career ranked No. 3 in school history with 6,704 yards of total offense, just one yard shy of tying Jeff Wickersham for second place in school history ... Only the fourth quarterback in LSU history to pass for over 6,000 yards .

This is a joke.
AGAIN - Go look at the FIRST ROUND TALENT ON OFFENSE AND DDFENSE AND WHO CALLED THOSE PLAYS. This was BEFORE Les neutered by Jarrett Lee.
Hell m Lee threw for nearly the 200 yards in 8 games in his Rs freshman season but had all those picks.

Apart from the fact that this kind of list is almost entirely subjective, there are 2 problems: (1) any QB who played before about 1980 probably never threw more than 15 or so passes per game and therefore his statistics don't show how good ( or bad) he was and (2) there are probably not a lot of old timers on this board who saw YA Tittle play (he played 70 years ago) or for that matter, Bert Jones, who played nearly 50 years ago when I was at LSU. My 2 cents, based on the Tigers that I saw:

1 Bert Jones
2 Tommy Hodson
3 Rohan Davey in his senior year
4 Matt Mauck and Matt Flynn only because LSU won national titles with them at QB
5 Jamarcus Russell

Honorable mention:

Nelson Stokely
Alan Risher

Yep, just ask Al Davis who sold out his organization to take him #1 overall.

I guess Tim Tebow wasnt great at Florida. Can't get a job in the NFL.

Its amazing how lsu fans shite on one of the greatest Tigers ever because he didn't do well IN THE NFL.

This. I've heard people argue Flynn was better than Russell. Sure, JR was a bit inconsistent but he was also battling a bad offensive line and bad play calling. The offense averaged about two yards per carry against Auburn and Florida

People forget we had zero running game in 2006 and he still has the best passing season in lsu history.
Our top 3 rushers in 06 didnt even have 1200 yards rushing combined.

Good list and at least you explained your reasoning.

To me it depends on what you are looking at like you are saying but also are you looking at LSU and Pro combined are more and LSU career.

Also, leadership matters also.

My list using LSU and Pro career combined would be

1. Bert Jones (some personal bias included - he and Tommy Casanova are probably my 2 favorite LSU players)

2. Y.A. Tittle.

3. Tommy Hodson

4. Rohan Davey.

5. Jamarcuss Russell

How do you have Jeff Wickersham and not Tommy Hodson? I'd take Alan Risher over Wickersham.

5. Y. A. Tittle

Tommy Hodson needs to be in there and not sure who is out, hard to compare with different coaches and different decades

My all time favorite is Bert Jones

Our 3 top rushers combined didnt have 1200 yards.

The only wr on that squad to have any real lasting nfl success was Dwayne Bowe.

Please enlighten me to all those 2006 lsu offensive players that had great success in the nfl.

Craig Davis- no
Early Doucet-he had 1 season with more than 295 yards rec
Hester- no
Alley B- no
Justin Vincente no
Keiland Williams- no

Dwayne Bowe was the only offensive player on that 2006 team that had lasting nfl success.

To deny that JRUSS isnt one of the 3 best qbs in the history of our program just lets you know that that person doesn't know shite about football or lsu history.

Mike Miley was an enigma to me. He started out very well in the 1973 season when LSU went 9-0, but had mediocre performances during the last 3 games where they went 0-3.

Let's not even bring up that that same play calling he is touting straight up cost us the Auburn game when they refused to throw the ball until we had to.

ETA: ive accepted the fact that some of out fans will always hate JRUSS because he committed the unforgivable act of wearing a,"Bama Boy" necklace during our title game in 2007.
