I think its absurd that the drinking age is 21. It should be 18. If you're old enough to get married and sign up for military service without your folks permission, you're old enough to drink.

I agree with part of this. I'd move military service and marriage back to 20 though. But as long as they aren't going to do that, then 18 years should be able to drink.

switch to hard liquor. Requires less storage space, less ice to keep cool.

2) put drink in a plastic cup that isn't see through

3) If you can, try to tailgate with people who are old enough to drink.

Good advice, but here's some more... learn moderation and pace. Beer pong is fun. But avoid beer bongs. Don't let peers pressure you into drinking way too much. EAT SOMETHING! DRINK SOME WATER!

Drink. Enjoy drinking. Learn how NOT to be an a-hole when drinking and how not to drink to excess every time you take a sip of alcohol.

I'm no longer under 21, but for the last few years, from what I was told and experienced, the only way an 18-21 year old could potentially get an MIP on gamedays was for these reasons:

a) Walking around in open areas with a drink. Typically, the guideline I followed was to never leave the tent with a drink. As long as I was in my tent not acting drunk then I was fine.

b) Drinking out of a can/bottle. If you drink out of cup in your tent, you wouldn't be bothered.

c) Visibly drunk/behavioral issues. Don't act drunk.

d) Being oblivious to the presence of LSUPD. If the bike cops are riding near, set down, throw away, or down your drink. Don't be in possession.

If you followed these guidelines, you were pretty much guaranteed not to get an MIP. This past Saturday was a completely different story though. Anyone who looked under 21 was fair game no matter where they were, how they were behaving, what they were drinking out of or even if they were actually drinking underage.

why quit drinkin? just drink out of cans and have your own ice chest. if minors are drinking their own stuff so be it, but he can not take your chest for that, and if he tried i would walk straight to the LSUPD building and file a complaint right then

+1

That's the KEY to fully enjoying your tailgating experience - and it also applies to Mardi Gras as well. You gotta pace that drinking, not so fast you get hammered and fall over before kick off, but not so slow that you don't have a really good buzz to a light drunk going into the game.

Yeah but I'm sure they'll find a way to accuse one of the younger guys of drinking out of my flat.

Can he? Is it actually explicitly legal to have an open container on LSU campus on gameday, or is it just a system of salutory neglect? I know that, for instance, in New Orleans, its actually only technically legal to be in public with an open contain in the French Quarter - but the open container law is NEVER enforced outside the quarter.

I remember when I was a student, which was 70's.
As long as you guys are acting in a civilized manner, and not causing problems, you should not be harrassed. I also think anyone old enough to vote, or join the military, should have the same rights as other voters.

Was it LSUPD? They are total dicks. I think they are pissed off they can't cut it as real cops.

I remember back in 95 myself and a van load of 6 other hippie looking people got pulled over in Kirby lot on Aster back when Aster wasn't paved yet. The pig wouldn't tell us why he pulled us over, and he insisted he saw us smoking a joint (which we weren't). It took up about 2 hours of our time. By then end of it there were about 3 or 4 other LSUPigD cars there and some a-hole in plain clothes ordering them around. They never found any drugs on us.

The morons missed the half ounce that my friend had hidden in his shoe at the time of the pull over and which he slipped in between the two seats of the cop car they had placed him in!

Sadly I'm not surprised. And police wonder why so many don't respect them anymore. You have to give respect to receive it. Just because you represent my government doesn't give you the right to abuse me. I give them their power willingly as a citizen of this country. It's not inherantly theirs.

Just make sure you never tell a cop he is being "rude and unprofessional", even if he is - they'll beat you like they did Robert Davis.

What's funny is in a way they did have the last laugh. They were just about to let us all go, then the plain clothes guy said "why don't you search their shoes first" ? So my friend, who was in the cop car, see's them start to look in our shoes. So of course he takes it out of his shoe and sticks it in the cop's car. The funny part comes when they get to him - he was the ONLY person whose shoes they DIDN'T look in!

Not true. I had a friend who was arrested uptown for having an open container. He was shocked. He thinks it was a racial thing. He even told the cop, "are you kidding me? This is New Orleans." Charges were later dropped, but he had to spend some time in jail which is never fun.

Jeezums. That's messed up.

Where uptown was it? Was there a parade or something or just a normal day?

agree if you are old enough to serve in military at 18 you should be able to drink...

but the folks between 18-21 and drinking and causing problems.. are not in the military nor do they have any intentions of doing so..

and the ones I see are the worst ones about trashing the campus
