BATON ROUGE -- After nearly 34 years of treating her program like family, LSU Women’s Golf Head Coach Karen Bahnsen announced today she has decided to step down in order to focus on her immediate family’s needs.
“Coaching and mentoring these young women is one of the great honors of my life, and this decision is one of the most difficult,” said Bahnsen. “I have been a part of this program since it began. The young women who have played for me are my family. I will miss being with them on a daily basis.”
Bahnsen has contributed a lasting legacy to LSU Golf that began for her as the very first recruit in the program’s history in 1979.
Bahnsen will take a position working with the Tiger Athletic Foundation helping to promote LSU Athletics in support of all LSU athletic programs.
“I am excited about the opportunity to stay involved with LSU Athletics and the Tiger Athletic Foundation,” said Bahnsen. “Once a Tiger, always a Tiger!”

So who do we get to replace her? LSU has pretty good golf facilities, a very good course, and will pay well.
I'd think Joanne Berglund from UNF would have to be on the list. She built that program from the ground up starting in 2011.
The best possible coach LSU could get IMO would be Greg Robertson from Kent State.
I just have the feeling LSU would want to hire a woman to coach women's golf. Don't shoot the messenger.
Another excellent prospect would be Furman head coach Jeff Hull.
Finally Louisville's Courtney Trimble would be an excellent choice.

I was hoping she would move away and talk her compliance Nazi with her and enjoy retirement like in Colorado or a beach. 34 years deserves a nice place like that.

I was about to ask if there was relation. Husband or son?

It's incredible to me that LSU will be hiring only it's 4th coach in the history of women's golf at LSU.
This is a big opportunity to take a step forward. Bahnsen's teams have fallen off he previous standards, but a lot of that had to do with her mother dying six years ago and her father being in poor health.
We have everything we need here to be successful. Just need to hire a good coach. And I don't mean that as a slight at Bahnsen. It's just time for new blood.

Bo Bahnsen is her husband, Senior Associate AD/Compliance and Planning.

Mr. Bahnsen is the one thing TAF, Athletic Dept employees young and old can agree upon... He is a grade A jerk. Big title and a pee brain mind.
He crossed Will Wade which wasn't smart. He is like the internal cop who forgot what his actual job duties are. Alleva leaves then Mr. Bo is out as well. Another example of Joe A not taking care of business.
I feel sorry for Karen's parents. My dad has been dealing with Parkinson's for 7+ years. No damn picnic. Certainly be respectful of what she did as a head coach and give her a year to get her personal life in order. After that, why make the program suffer.
Then they dump her on the TAF? LSU Athletics and the TAF are starting to remind me of the US Govt. Stop wasting so much dang money

this was an initial thought of mine as well. A bit of a joke she landed a cush job.
I thank her for her time, but a lot of people could accomplish what she did at LSU.

I admit I'm less concerned about the Bahnsens than the future of LSU sports in general and women's golf in particular.
The men will rebound in a big way next year, with the nation’s No. 1-ranked recruiting class for the Class of 2018, and it would be nice to see the women have similar success.

The Bahnsens still have a lot to do with the future of our Athletics program. He will continue to stifle our programs from his compliance office, and I'll bet that she has something to do with who gets hired as her replacement.

I'll take that bet...it will all be on Alleva. He's not one to pass on the chance to make a splash hire right now.

I've meet her several times before and am sad to see her go, she seems to be a nice person, the complete opposite of that idiot husband of hers!! When the hell is he stepping down!!

I never heard of her husband. What is so bad about him?

Bo Bahnsen is the reason LSU football players miss several games for failed weed tests

Oh. He’s the zealot who thinks he’s going to win the war on drugs and all things ungodly.

It's as if LSU Athletics has its own little entitled-bureaucracy!
LSU Women's Golf has been substandard for several years, yet after 34 years, we allow mediocrity to move to the fund-raising TAF? I sympathize with the plight of her father and wish them the best, but this is her personal business. LSU Athletics is our business and it just sound rather "deadheadish" and more brownie-points from Joe Alleva penchant to broker his position.
Really, a thorough house cleaning is needed in LSU Athletics and shuffling TAF jobs is not the answer. Very obvious smell of nepotism.

Yes. She may not be the coach she once was, but the fund-raising arm of LSU should have people who truly love the university. 34 years tells me she loves LSU. Nothing wrong with changing roles if she can benefit the university.

Why can’t your posts be written more like this more often? If you were generally this coherent and grammatically correct in your posts, people would likely take you more serious about your rants on women’s sports.
