Hey FieldMink. We plan to be in the green space on the perimeter of Lot 70 just outside the stadium. If you look at google maps, we plan to be near the corner of Robert Dedman Dr and Red River Street. Either side of Red River looks viable but we’d prefer the Stadium side.

For the most part , it doesn't exist. Fans come late and leave early. Parking is mostly in high rise lots which don't allow it. The campus looks pretty clean after the game.

I’m leaning towards bar hopping rather than set up a tailgate.
Doing this. Looks like a lot of fun bars in the downtown area.

Yeah, apparently UT Austin doesn't allow tailgating on their campus. So basically, for those who want to tailgate in Austin, that's the site they'll need to refer to in order to find areas to tailgate in. Should've been clearer. My fault
Here's the map for tailgating around campus, the state lots you reference in your posts are all south of MLK.
Also, y'all are correct that the tailgating scene in general is not like the SEC, but for a big game like this the people will come out of the woodwork. Won't be LSU or The Grove or anything, but there will A LOT of activity 9/7.

tigermall according to the map below the grass your planning on tailgating isnt "open tailgating" would hate for you to set up all that then some silly gameday cop make you move. we will be parking close in east campus garage and will be looking for open grass to setup as well

Yeah - appreciate the tip. It’s one of those hybrid areas. Google earth makes it look like a nice stretch like we have on Nicholson. Quite honestly, this is one many of us may just have to figure it out when we get there.

Yeah, I don't think they'll let you set up on Lot 70. UT's kinda stiff/strict on tailgating up there. I did however e-mail TFC (Texas Facilities Commissions) and the lady informed of where most LSU fans will be. However, its miles away from the stadium. Way up in Lot 70 apparently. RV's park.
LSU RV park and tailgate site
iTiger48 - Actually reserved a parking spot in East garage, but there isn't much real estate to pitch a tent. Where you guys thinking?

417longhorn - So the yellow spots on the map are free game for tailgating? That's what i'm seeing from your map. Just want to make sure

I'm thinking the yellow spots right north of east campus garage. big open grass and close to our garage? what you thinking bud?

That does look like some prime open real estate to get jiggy. Can hop the fence and play some softball too before the game haha.
I'm also thinking maybe the area North west of the stadium above 24th street. Just to talk crap to UT folk of course. There's also the strip along E. Dean Keeton St.

Where the creek runs through the yellow north west of stadium is a definite option. hoping to find a lot of lsu fans to set up around.

And a lot of those yellow zones are right on campus.
eta - the best spots are the two yellow zones right at the intersection of East 24th street and San Jacinto.

I would do this as a last resort - you'll be isolated across the interstate and totally off campus. Won't get a feel of the atmosphere at all. The best spot is the lawn area around 24th and San Jacinto, close to the stadium and in the heart of the atmosphere.
Pitch your tent, have fun, go check out Longhorn City Limits which is a new gameday concert series UT started this year, and feel free to yell tiger bait to your heart's content.

Somewhat - that weekend is the annual Law School Alumni tailgate, so I’m not setting up. We have people coming into town, so we'll be getting brunch and bar hopping around West Sixth before heading up to the Law School tailgate mid-afternoon.
You'll see that's pretty common in Austin - families will tailgate all day, but most of the students and 20/30 somethings will be bar hopping until about 3-4 hours before kickoff.

The Bob Bullock Museum Parking Lot typically has the best action for tailgating, but most get there early. It's more of a scene than a spot to get setup easily. Dean Keeton would be easier to find spots on. Yes our campus sucks for tailgating, but our city is badass. Welcome to Austin!
