LSU vs Texas (advance scouting report)
We actually get a "break" from conference play this weekend and face a Texas team that is truly struggling in just about every phase of the game. Especially on the Boards!!

This is a game that I really think LSU should come out and play totally loose. The pressure is on Shaka and Texas to get ANY kind of win right now and I think that could play right into our hands this weekend.

For anyone who isn't "sold" on CWW, I suggest you start listening to this guys pressers. I can't express how impressed i am with Coach and his knowledge of the game and overall basketball IQ. Just impressive at every level!

Rebounding! I have been talking about this for weeks now with this team and I think, other than Arkansas, this will be the biggest EDGE on the glass we have all year. Texas simply doesn't rebound the ball very well. WVA beat them on the glass 53-25 and Kansas 40-29 Wva had an amazing 23-7 edge on the OFFENSIVE glass!! We should dominate here!

Now, for everyone who jumps in every game on the Scoreboard thread, and wonders why we give up so many 3s, well, this is your chance to hop on again and complain!! Texas is GOING to HOIST up 30-40 3s So get ready!!

Again, teams that score inside and rebound the ball well, are slow to put teams away. And if you are NOT ELITE on defense, which we are NOT, then you are simply going to play games that are closer than normal! I can't seem to get the average fan on here to understand this concept! Ex. Seton Hall, who I think is the best team in the country, plays similar, but they have a Lottery player in Powell and he separates late in alot of their games. But in general, their winning streak is mostly by single digits. WE ARE NOT ALONE IN PUTTING TEAMS AWAY!!!

Virginia of last couple years plays ELITE defense and when they had a few NBA players, they would pull away from teams late in the game and win games 65-43 ish We are similar in that it takes time for us pull away, but the team understands this. Late game situational hoops is something I am sure WW will work on...right now we aren't very good at it!!

The scoring lulls are what kills this team as the games progress. I think we really need to attack the rim even harder when these lulls hit to at least get some FTs to stop these 8-0 or 10-0 runs!

Febres and Coleman from Texas can shoot it and Sims will be tough if we get in foul trouble in the paint, but I really think listening to WW that we are going to roll through Austin this weekend!! Texas simply can't score enough to keep up the pace, so unless Texas goes crazy from 3, I am seeing a 74-64 type game for LSU this weekend.

I think the line will be around LSU -2.5 This is a QUAD 1 game and will HELP in the log run for seeding, so it is important, but not necessarily a MUST WIN!!!

Good luck and let's keep this streak going as we have A MONSTER game on deck with Bama at home (I personally think Bama is the most dangerous team in the SEC) and then games vs Ole Miss and Vandy, so if we handle our business, AN 11 GAME WINNING STREAK is within reach going to play Auburn on the road!

Great write up. I see our lack of defending the 3 point shot a real trouble area if Texas, as you mentioned, takes 30+ per game.

Ditto.

I don't know jack about basketball, but I listened to him last night on the radio and I was impressed at his detailed knowledge of the game. And if he can communicate that to me, he must be great at coaching up the players.

re: LSU vs Texas (advance scouting report)
Yes to all this. I did notice some development in smart and Mayes In the Florida game looking side when they were doubled or hedged on the high pick. They both made some very good passes inside.

We are undersized in the paint. Miss St two 6 10 guys really bothered our inside players. Marlon Taylor clearly made a difference against Florida

Our press seems to get some turnovers. So maybe I would say we are not elite in half court defense.

Florida really over played the three point line and we killed them at the basket. I bet next time they don’t let us pull the 6 10 guys out away from the basket.

Anyway shaping up pretty well

For all Tiger Hoops Fans-

PLEASE watch some other games and you will appreciate what these guys are doing on the road in the SEC. Over 1.5 years without a loss on the road in the SEC

USC (decent program) Their last ROAD WIN vs a Ranked team was in 2010 For Gods sake!! Oh yeah, game is over vs #12 Oregon if they can inbound the ball with :20 left

Im telling everyone, LSU has as LEGIT of a shot as anyone if we get Manning back and just keep working for the next couple months! Oregon is soft for #12 team and USC, who we lost to late on the road, is 15-3 and could easily win the Pac 12. Michigan State loses tonight, Ohio State who is ranked is a HORRIBLE basketball team!!

Keep watching these games and you will feel so much better about LSU hoops

Really? Interesting - haven't seen them play but after reading your statement looked up their schedule - 15-4 with some impressive wins but didn't quite seem like best team in the country stuff on paper....68-48 loss to Rutgers for example and a 10-point loss to 9-9 and unranked Iowa St. I guess i'll have to watch them play.

I agree with you here - Bama started off poorly this year but have hit their stride and can beat anyone in the SEC. Gave Kentucky all they wanted in Lexington..

Good luck and let's keep this streak going

Yes I'm a bit worried, I think we're playing a desperate team who was just humbled Monday and has had all week to think about that. I think we'll get their best effort much like we did from Ole Miss, except I think Texas is a little more talented than Ole Miss.

I agree that LSU is FAR from elite on defense and, in general, when most of your buckets are 2's instead of a barrage of 3's, it can be harder to pull away...unless you can consistently get stops on defense.

Seton Hall is on a 9 game winning streak. Only 4 of those wins have been by single digits. And those were all against top 80 (NET) teams. They also beat Marquette, Xavier, Georgetown and Depaul by double-digits (all top 60 NET teams). On the other hand, LSU is finding a way to make virtually every game close, regardless of the quality opponent. They've beaten 3 top 50-ish teams by an average of 1.5 points. But they also only beat two bad teams (+100 NET) Ole Miss and A&M by 4 points each.

The scoring lulls are what kills this team as the games progress. I think we really need to attack the rim even harder when these lulls hit to at least get some FTs to stop these 8-0 or 10-0 runs!

Now a win is THE most important "stat" and you take them regardless of if they are by 1 or 20 points. But it's not scoring lulls that kill this team. They are the 4th most efficient offense in the country and are 7th in PPG. That's made even more remarkable by the fact they are 269th in the country in three point rate. They are 3rd in 2 point rate. So even with the HUGE majority of their points coming from either inside the arc or the FT line, they are still scoring at an unbelievable clip, both in total quantity and efficiency. That means scoring "lulls" are very few and far between. You stop scoring runs not by simply trying match the opponent (who in almost every case you are better than offensively) bucket for bucket. You mitigate runs by stringing together consecutive stops on the defensive end.

What prevents this team from closing or extending big leads is after getting a 10 point lead then allowing Ole Miss to go 6/9 and 5/5 from the FT to completely erase it in a span of 4 minutes. Or going up by 11 vs. Florida with under 3:00 to play, only to then allow UF to shoot 8/10 with 4 three pointers. Even late against Florida LSU continued to score...they just couldn't get a stop. Just one or two key stops in the final 3:00 would have allowed LSU to run almost a 1:00 off the clock without UF touching the ball.

I never worry about this team being able to score. As Wade has been saying since the summer, "this team can roll out of bed and put up 75." But it is a bit frustrating for the team to be that damn good on offense but still have to gut out tight games simply because they are so bad on D. This could be a really, really good team if the splits between the offensive numbers and defensive numbers start to balance out. When it gets to the second week of the tournament you don't see very many teams playing who are bad on defense. I don't think it was simply just a coincidence Virginia and Texas Tech (the two national championship game participants) were top 5 defensive teams. Likewise, for all the great offensive firepower of last year's Auburn team and the 2018 Villanova team, they were STILL both top 40 defensive teams. Though they don't do it with the 3 ball, LSU is in the class of those great offensive teams. Now if they could just stop someone!
