LSU v Alabama 1973 - Bear Bryant show

LSU lost this game and there is a lot of "full house backfield" and wishbone in this game but this is cool. Mike Miley at QB, Brad Davis at RB. Richard Todd (one time Saints QB) as QB for Bama and a lot of familiar coaches names as players - Mike Dubose, Sylvester Crooms. And of course, the voice of Bear Bryant. I hated Alabama as a kid, but it is cool to hear Bear's voice again after all these years.

I haven't seen much footage of Miley play but you can see his obvious NFL level talent. It's a shame he went the MLB route and a tragedy he was killed in an auto accident. I remember my Dad telling me as a little boy and concerned that Bert Jones had graduated tell me, yes, but Miley might be better.

LSU starts passing more when they fall behind and Miley is good.

as a kid,i met Bear Bryant the night before this game at Fun Fair Park which was right by the motel the Bama team was staying at. A friend and i had a long visit with him and his bodyguard at one of the picnic like tables there. He smelled of bourbon and had a flask and slurred his speech. He talked about how hard it would be to win the next night because of how loud it would be. The next night they won 21-7.

My first game ever in Tiger Stadium. Sat in south end zone, still have the program.

Thanks for posting.
My god that was a frustrating game. You really felt like you were hanging with them, maybe even outplaying them, but there you are losing 21-7. They score on a short field after a fumble and 2 long scoring plays. You pretty much control them other than those three plays. Offensively, in addition to the critical fumble above, you throw two endzone interceptions.

Wasn't that a Thanksgiving Night Game?
Also both teams were 9-0 going in. I bet TS was Rocking. Bama hit two big plays early, we never recovered. Moved the ball between the 30's but just couldn't cash in.

Is it true that Bear used to come on the show wasted?
Can't remember who told me that, but if so, that's some funny shite.

I was there. 75 degrees. Mike Williams fell down and they scored. Duffy Daugherty was a hated announcer. Back when national tv was rare.

Nice. Mac implemented the veer just for Miley after that season. Miley went pro and LSU had to go with Carl Otis Trimble who was great on the ground but couldn't throw the ball.
One of those awesome might have beens. Miley would have been deadly in the veer.

Worst part about this game is that it left us flat as a pancake and we lost to freaking Tulane the following week for the first time in 25 years.
I’ll never forget Bear Bryant leaning against the goal post in warmups and people were throwing oranges and nobody could hit him.
9-0 going into this game and wound up 9-3, smh.

I believe this was the Thanksgiving Night game and rare national TV at the time? Yeah we couldn't get out of our own way, Gump owned us
I also recall being at the 69 Bama game and him leaning against the south goal posts; we managed to pull out that one vs not one of his stronger teams though!
