LSU up to 7 seed in Bracket MatrixPosted by Alt26

For those that don't really follow CBB much, Bracket Matrix is essentially a database of all "Bracketology" sites out there. That includes established media outlets such as ESPN, CBS, Fox, etc along with essentially any guy with a blog and the time/interest to follow CBB. So while it is by no means perfect, it does a pretty good job of giving an aggregate of where people who follow CBB think teams stand in terms of the NCAAT. At the moment there are 111 entries, so LSU's "7 seed" is an average of all 111.
Bracket Matrix
Most of the "big names", Lunardi, Palm, etc have LSU as an 8. I think LSU is probably on the cusp of the line between "best" No. 8 seed and "worst" No. 7 seed. A win tonight at UGA wouldn't move the needle too much. But it would be a "good" win simply because it would be a road win and put LSU above .500 (for the moment) in games away from home (road and neutral site). That would then set up a HUGE opportunity on Saturday at Arkansas.

26 of those 111 brackets havent been updated still since we won this past weekend as well. So we could be flirting with a 6 seed potentially once those get updated.
Our average seed for those brackets is 7.96 where as the brackets that have been updated for our win over the weekend is 7.4.

As long as we're not an 8 or 9. I want no part of Gonzaga or Baylor. If we happen to get an 8 or 9 I hope we are in a bracket with one of the other 1 seeds. Being in a bracket with Gonzaga or Baylor is almost a guaranteed one-and-done for the 8/9 seeds.

Lunardi has LSU as his highest ranked 7 seed. Arkansas is a 6. A HUGE week for the Tigers.

Good catch. I think when I looked yesterday he had LSU as an 8.
Arkansas is sitting as a 6 right now. However, they have Alabama and LSU this week. Tennessee is in freefall...which hurts LSU.
Looking at the teams with or ahead of LSU on the 7 and 6 lines you'll see some teams with worse metric ratings (KenPom, NET, BMI) than LSU. However, they all have big non-conf. wins where LSU doesn't. LSU can probably make up for that to some degree if they continue on a roll. But man, those last minute losses to Texas Tech and St. Louis could be the reasons to "penalize" LSU.

I don’t understand why they have the NET rankings if they don’t use them. Who cares if LSU doesn’t have big non-conference wins. Their NET ranking is still higher than those others so that means LSU’s overall performance is better.
When they came out with the NET rankings they made them sound like the end all be all and the perfect system for the committee to go off of. But now it’s like they act like they don’t even exist.

6 seed means a 3 seed (barring an upset) in the second round. This keeps us away from the elites and gives us a real chance at going to the sweet 16/ elite 8.

Need a win tonight at UGA, but more important for seeding is beating Arkie this weekend.

Need to go 2-0 this week. Don’t sleep on the Georgia game tonight. LSU always has a tough time at Georgia and Georgia is 11-3 at home this season. It might be a grinder.
We had an uncomfortably close OT game with them in the PMAC too. Cant drop one like this.

We played like absolute shite for those first 31 minutes.
I don't think georgia is a bad team but if we just play focused they won't be able to keep up

I got LSU -5 and U/O 163

It is a component...a big component...but not the only one. Ultimately the teams/seeds are selected by people.
It will be interesting to see what the committee does with this strange year. Through no fault of their own many teams had their OOC schedules destroyed (LSU being one as they lost games vs. VCU, Syracuse, Western Kentucky, and Houston...just to name a few). The OOC schedule is NOT what Wade wanted. He was just forced to play essentially anyone he could get to play.
That said, the committee IS going to have to find ways to differentiate between teams with wildly unequal data. If team "A" has good wins against teams outside of their conference while team "B" doesn't, that could be a distinguishing factor. IMO, outside of about the top 8 teams you're probably going to see a lot of "controversy" as there may be 7 seeds with almost as good a resume as 3-4 seeds due to fewer reg season games being played this year.
For example: Lunardi currently has Texas as a 4 and LSU a 7. If you dig deeper you see that Texas and LSU don't have terribly dissimilar resumes. Texas is 23 (NET) LSU is 28. BOTH are 3-6 vs. Q1 opponents and 6-6 vs Q1/Q2 opponents. Neither has a "bad" loss. However, Texas has neutral site OOC wins vs. UNC and Indiana. That is probably the difference in the seeding even though the reality may be 7 seed LSU is as good or better than 4 seed Texas.
Huge game coming up on Saturday.
