LSU signee Ja'Vonte Smart wins Gatorade POTY for La.
His 3rd consecutive Poty award
LINK

Next year's team will be fun to watch.

The point guard battle will be exciting. I think Waters and Smart will start and Mays will come off the bench.

Has there ever been a 3x winner before? That's crazy.

I've maintained I think Waters/Mays continues to start with the chemistry and experience they've built, with Smart coming off the bench as an offensive sparkplug since that's what he's great at. Either way all 3 will play 25+ minutes next year probably.

Whomever comes in at point off the bench may be the best backup point guard in the country. I agree that all 3 will see significant PT.

Can’t wait to see what next year’s team can be. Combine all this backcourt firepower with the 2nd best front court recruiting class in the nation and this team could be special.

IMO you may be underestimating Smarts talent. It’s quite possible he’s a one and done and will start and get the bulk of minutes at the point from the get go. If I’m wrong, we still have an abundance of talent there- which is an awesome issue.

Wow. I guarantee you the only way he doesn't start is if he is injured. Come on dude. Think about what you are saying. No way in hell he don't start.

Smart is not coming off the Bench lmao. Smart is on a whole different level than Mays and it’s not even close.

Yeah, it won't be a battle.

Smart and Waters will both be out there together and its going to be glorious. Try to press that.

Smart and Reid will start from Day 1. There is no one on this team currently besides TREMONT who will take time from the guys coming in.

Idk guys mays is a good 3 point shooter and he's a decent defender. I don't think javonte starts right away. Maybe he takes over the starting role but hard for me to see that before I see him play college ball.

But as mentioned before regardless all 3 will see plenty of minutes

Waters/Mays
Smart/Mays
Sampson/Days
Williams/Days
Reid/Bigby-Williams

Something like that? Sampson needs to step it up though, or he might not see much playing time. He's got the ability though.

I hope you're joking, I have a huge thread on Smart playing like a 6-star on the recruiting board

I think people are getting WAY too hung up on bench/start. Again, all 3 of those guys will play 25+ minutes like next year. Mays is a 2 year returning starter and brings a ton of experience and chemistry. I just think it's not a done deal a freshman comes in and sits him on the bench from day 1. Smart's best attribute is the ability to just go in and get points. I kind of like him coming off the bench initially to be that offensive spark-plug.

It will be great just to have 3 guys who are truly ball handlers with 2 of them always out there. That's what Wade wants exactly.

I'd guess Reid at the 4 and the Bigby-Williams at the 5, but that's just a guess.

Bigby-Williams will start the 5 and Reid the 4, I think that much should be set in stone

Waters certainly with the start at the 1

The 2 and 3 will be up for grabs. Sampson probably has the 3 so long as he returns.

That's what I was thinking. And yeah, Waters is a lock.

It's going to be fun to see how things on the wings shake themselves out.

We still will add 1 if not 2 more guys in this class, so you never know.

Right now it looks like we'll grab a JUCO PF and save the last one for a transfer. If Sampson decided to take a hike for whatever reason then it would open up yet another.

Yeah true.

Ok, so:

PG: Waters/Smart/Mays
SG: Smart/Mays
SG: Sampson/Smart/Days (depending on size we want)
PF: Reid/Williams/Days
C: Bigby-Williams/Williams/Reid (depending on size we want)

That's vicious.

That starting 5 is our best in a long time. Can't wait to see Waters with a bunch of talent around him and how much that elevates his game. He's going to be a distributing machine.

That’s been rumored since the beginning of the season. Either transfer or NBA. I would be very surprised to see him in an LSU Jersey next year.

Not sure about a transfer unless he's graduating, but the pro rumors have been there all season. I guess he's just want to make some money even if it's overseas.

Such a disappointing year for him, comes out the gate hot, gets hurt, and just has been a minimal contributor ever since. At this point in the season I dont know if it's injury or effort holding him back. He did look great against Florida and Mississippi State, but forgettable in most other SEC games.
