“We’ve got our base plays that our coaches feel like we run pretty well. Now it’s just putting a little window dressing on it so different teams don’t try to pick up on certain stuff,” Daniels said. “We’re on practice 11 now so there’s probably not too much more we’re gonna input. In addition to the fundamentals, Daniels found himself working on the mental side of the game as well as his leadership skills now that he’s the oldest quarterback in the room in terms of experience.

“Guys know I’ve played a lot of football so I have seen a lot of different stuff. To be that resource for guys to come and ask questions,” Daniels said.

“It's a little fine tuning things. The whole summer, just working with my quarterbacks coach back home and working with coach Sloan to marry everything up with the concepts. Like coach Kelly says ‘the rhythm of your drop is gonna take you through your progressions. Just working on those things throughout the summer.”

As for Nussmeier, the redshirt freshman wanted to make sure he was simplifying the game as well as keeping his eyes and feet in the right spots on his reads and throws. Nussmeier spent part of the offseason working with his dad Doug, a former LSU and NFL quarterback and current quarterbacks coach for the Dallas Cowboys. He also trained with Craig Nall, another former Tigers quarterback and was really complimentary of the support system around him.

“I’m going to do whatever I’m told to do. Whatever my job is on this team I’m gonna do it to the best of my ability,” Nussmeier said. “I was a backup last year and I don’t think you guys saw me for one second moping and complaining. All I care about is us winning games and vice versa. If I’m in, that's the way Jayden’s gonna be and that’s how we’re wired as a unit and quarterback room.”
