quote:

The good news is that LSU played Alabama pretty much even in the actual run of play. The bad news was virtually everything else.

quote:

Bama essentially only had three good drives in the first three quarters of the game, but they took advantage of each one, turning each one into a touchdown. It’s like they milled about and did nothing for most of their possessions, then decided once a quarter to take the game seriously, and put together a football drive.

quote:

It’s like Ed Orgeron and the LSU coaching staff never realized the game was slipping away, more concerned with keeping the game close than actually trying to win the thing. LSU was in largely the same position it was against Auburn, down two scores right before the half. While LSU went for the score against Auburn, they ran out the clock against Bama, content to have the game look close.

quote:

Looking close is nice, but I wanted to win. And in the second half, LSU fell behind 21-3, and then Bama simply started to run out the clock on LSU. LSU was content to lose this game by a dignified margin, and Saban was more than happy to oblige.

quote:

Danny Etling continued to be two beats off. Those Chark drops should have been catches, but they weren’t good throws either. Etling spent the night underthrowing open receivers, and just missing that potential breakout play. He finished the game 12/26 and 137 yards. And one terrible pick. Myles Brennan came in for the final drive to close the ledger on the game.

quote:

Bama isn’t just better, they are also lucky. They seem to get all of the bounces that they need, which seems unfair given that the only way to beat a team so much more talented than you is to also get a few breaks. But Bama would drop a short punt, and it would roll 15 yards in the favor. Jalen Hurts would make a terrible decision to throw the ball in the middle of four defenders, and it turns into a first down. When you’re Bama, you don’t get punished for your mistakes. When your LSU, you get punished for the smallest miscue

quote:

LSU played to keep this game close and put forth a credible effort. Mission accomplished, I guess. But I think I would have liked LSU to let it all hang out and risk disaster in order to have a shot at the win. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. LSU didn’t venture in this one, and got the exact result they played for.

orrrrrr the 2 teams were somewhat evenly matched, and the game was just a close game?

outside of one drive there was nothing conservative about what LSU did. They went for it and missed

The 2nd half of last night’s game disproves your thought.

Yeah that was a terrible article. How does that guy have a job? "It's like, it's like, it's like."

Read like a high school girl wrote it.

This is a bunch of crap...The CBS commentators sadly mentioned, last night was the best they had seen of DE. So, our QB plays his best game and it was an average performance at best. That's not intended to give DE a hard time, he is who he is. Canada called a game that best suited the limitations of our QB and young OLine. As mentioned in other threads our margin for error is smaller, so when we don't hit on the limited opportunities given to us, we get last night's result

No. LSU's D looked like complete garbage in the 1st half against Auburn and they scored 23 points in the 1st half against us. We absolutely needed to try and score points based on how our D looked in that game.
Being down 16 at home compared to 11 to Bama on the road with your D playing well are not virtually the same. I don't like wasting a drive with two minutes or so left, but I do understand the hesitation with that pick Etling threw. Also, that drive started at our 6. Against Auburn, we started at the 25.

I didn't agree with all the calls or the pace of our offense late in the game, but if they were just trying to keep it close, they probably wouldn't have gone on 4th down deep in our territory toward the end with Brennan in because Bama could have scored. LSU's D wasn't cooperating too much with them though.

Jesus this is stupid. They were not playing to keep it close. They tried to win. Came up short. This is one of the dumbest things I’ve heard.

The last 9 min. of the 4th quarter was pretty lethargic.

That's evident by four long passing plays which were well planned and could have been successful if properly executed. There were two where the receiver was wide open but DE underthrew. Another was overthrown to a wide open receiver. Another sideline pattern was dropped. Nothing conservative about the game plan, and if only two of these had materialized, the putcome of the game would have changed.

So let's see you're saying these college kids laid off a sufficient amount of money to make it worth while vs consequence?

Dumb arse!!!

I think the staff had the mindset, gameplan and play calls trying to win.

We didn’t execute and failed to realize early enough Etling could not win it for us by making a few big plays.

Would Brennan have? Perhaps but Brennan is also less experienced and lack of experience can lead to more mistakes and possibly turnovers.

I would’ve given Brennan a shot at our 2nd possession in the 3rd but can’t fault the staff for not doing all they believed was best to win.

It's even worse when you rewatch the game. The team had zero urgency. Running it 3 times in a row. Letting the play clock go down to 5 before snapping the ball.

O knew what he had to do to get the rantards wet.

I think Saban saw the injuries that he sustained and was simply looking to survive. Reminded me of a poker hand where the guy is relatively sure he has the upper hand but is willing to check down to the river because he's not 100% sure. Orgeron checked down right with him instead of raising.

What? We were a couple of decent passes from Etling or good plays by our wide receivers from tying the game. Just that makes it look like they were trying to win to me.
