2003

Then I lifted professionally for about 8 years after that in WABDL. Won worlds twice! The competition wasn't like IPF though, so don't think that's a gigantic feat or anything.

Well that's awesome. I suppose you lifted with Chavonic? I think he was lifting then. Best experience in college by far, probably prepped me for life better than anything else besides family. Always awesome to run into an IronDawg.

I saw your edit. Yea, my boy James did WABDL just a few years ago. I mean it's new and has had a handful of people, so yea it's easy to set records when you're the first to do it haha.

Well, you are. And you're using TD anonymously (I presume, unless your real name is Barbell Thor) as well.

There what is? You're being the douche, and you obviously don't do strength sports. That's fine except you're talking to people who have, yet you seem to think you know more than us.

If you fail to see what "it" is, it doesn't matter anyway.

No, I don't. I'm not a weight lifter and I'm not a strength coach. I don't know anywhere near as much as I presume you do and I have no problem saying that.

I've never said that. You're just one of the typical posters that goes into a thread to crap on an LSU athlete for no reason other than to put yourself over. That's fine. Be that douchebag if you want.

Downvote all you want, but people deadlift 501 at about 180 with a belt all the time. That says that a big heavy squeezing out only a hundred pounds more at who knows how much bodyweight says I'm correct.

I mean, it's 600 pounds. It's not light. But it's not a particularly impressive number at all, maybe unless this kid is a brand new freshman, and I still don't know why he's deadlifting in squat shoes.

Except one is a world class athlete and one is the gym hero that no one cares about.

Yeah I lifted with Josh. I helped him coach in 2009 as well.

I didn't realize he still did that. Is he still coaching? I haven't talked to him in years.

600+ pounds, regardless of size, sure seems like a lot of weight.

it is. it is strong as fack. prolly has a strong squat and bench also. nobody here is talking pro powerlifters pound for pound. we do not care about that. we care about brute strength playing a position

I think he’s phased out from actively coaching to just being the on-campus sponsor for the club. AJ McFarland took over the presence at practice—the guy is hilarious. Remember Matt Winchester? That was my dude right there. I came in during the fall of 2010. We might’ve just missed each other.

Yaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! And there go my nuts hanging down to the ground. Lmao I could lift half of that maybe in my youth, gotta have a strong damn back also, but that shite there is what starts the back problems. It's good to be young, you feel like you can do anything and so you do, but I sure wouldn't be doing too much more of that shite if I were him. Lol

Lmao Try picking it up, and even if you were Magee's size you wouldn't fricking budge it. Squatting is totally different from fricking dead lifting, your damn legs are a lot stronger and the bar is securely positioned upon a strong back and shoulders.

But I'm always surprised that these big guys aren't stronger in the gym than the numbers that get floated around. 605 deadlift for a big guy is really just average strong...

Those big football players are usually pretty tall. Plus as has been mentioned they don’t train for maximum lifts.

what should he be pulling?

Assuming he's about 250 pounds, which would be the weight class under the superheavies, 650 would be competitive for collegiate nationals. That would be fine.

However, I bet he's a superheavy. Good would be high 600's, ballpark 675-700. If that's your squat and DL, you can be competitive. So, again, 605 is ok. It's nothing to scoff at for someone who doesn't lift as their sport. But it's merely ok for a D1 scholarship athlete playing in the trenches in the SEC.

You are correct here. I was on the National Championship powerlifting teams at La Tech in 99 & 2000. One of my teammates, Charr Gahagan, deadlifted 775 while only weighting 198. Yes, that broke the American record, but gives you some perspective. I was 165 lbs at 6’1”, so I had a long pull, but could deadlift 475. 600 lbs is certainly nothing to ever scoff at, no matter what size the athlete is, but yes, it’s not unforeseen that an OL could pull 600.
