Definitely surprised by this. Losing Burrow and the host of others is obviously a huge blow but there is still enough returning talent that the team should be top 10 on any preseason list.

Also, I know FPI is based on some algorithm but I'm not sure what the algorithm is in case someone cares to explain.

It’s a computer formula based on returning production. It isn’t a poll. So, there you go.

The fact that LSU wasn't in the postseason FPI top 2 tells you everything you need to know about FPI.

Not surprised at all considering we were #3 AFTER we won the championship.

Hack ranking.

Lol after completing the greatest season in the college football history we were 3rd in the FPI behind Clemson (a team we beat by 3 scores) and Ohio State (a team that was beaten by a team we beat by 3 scores).

LSU went 15-0 while beating the most ranked teams in the history of the sport and the FPI put them at #3 at the end of the season.

ESPN really needs to scrap that shite. To make it worse, the head of the playoff committee referenced the FPI the first few weeks in November. It's a severely flawed system and is being used to shape people's opinions.

The FPI thinks that LSU's offense this year will be a kind of average of LSU 2017, 2018, and 2019. Relying on prior seasons is generally reasonable, to avoid placing too much emphasis on recent performance.

You can't just yell "Hey Computer! LSU is actually really good on offense now!"

A top tier program making a much-delayed offensive change just isn't something that the FPI calculations can handle over the course of a season, since so much of what goes into the calculations is already baked in; it will take at least another year for FPI to figure out how to properly rank LSU.

It also seems likely that the formula is attributing a substantial amount of last year's offensive success to the players that are leaving; basically, it's projecting the 2020 offense to (1) be roughly the 2018 LSU offense (2) but without any returning starters.

To put it into perspective, A&M is in the top ten.

Yep, the 7-5, 7-50 arse whipping taking aggots.

I'm good with it, we just showed the whole CFB what happens when you count out a bunch of hungry savages, trust me, this team may be even hungrier this season to prove that we can keep this rollin

All we fricking need is a decent O-line.
A three-year QB (see a stronger-armed Matt Flynn) handing off and throwing to Marshall, Chase, Lee, Palmer, McMath, Moore, Gilbert, Emery, Price, Curry....OMG
And the defense could be even better....

We finished third in FPI last season so why are you continuing to follow that ranking system?

It’s the FPI... we’ll beat Texas and guess what? We’ll still be ranked behind Texas

Preseason doesn't mean squat. Where we are after the season is all that counts.
