After 3 games your Tigers are 3-0. They have won ugly and they have won easily, but all that matters is they keep winning. In the past just going 3-0 against unranked teams by this point may not have seemed like much but this year is different.

Before the year even officially started we beat a good 3-0 Texas team in a scrimmage that is receiving votes and will be ranked at some point this year.

Thus far we have beaten
Southeastern 94-63 (Picked to finish in the Top-2 in the Southland)
UNC-Greensboro 97-91 (Picked to finish first in the Southern Conference)
Memphis 85-76 (Will finish higher than their projected 5th in the American.)

We have scored 94,97, and 85 points against 3 teams that will all be playing some form of postseason basketball. The team has not even played near its best basketball offensively and still put up points. What makes this team so dangerous offensively is all the different ways we can beat you. Inside, outside, play slow, play fast, it does not matter. We may have the best free throw shooting team in the SEC this year and perhaps the last 15 years at LSU.

We are a young team and at times play like it, but that is also a positive because each game has been a learning experience and its so much better to learn from a win than a loss. This team is probably at about 30% of how good they truly can be. Rotation is pretty much set barring injury at 9 guys, and already 8 of the 9 have scored in double figures. Defensively they have struggled defending the 3 but they have found ways to overcome it in every game.

Friday Nov. 26 another good team in La Tech comes to play, it will be the final tuneup before LSU's in season tourney in Orlando. The Advocare Invitational is huge for future seeding as if we can win atleast 2 it gives us a chance at a Top 4 seed, there are 2 national contenders in Villanova and Florida State, and 5 other teams of which none are bad and all are resume building.

Besides Grambling the rest of the non-con schedule sets up very nicely with key games against St.Marys in Vegas and @Houston. If LSU can head into conference play at 11-2 or better this sets us up very well and allows us a little bit of a cushion come selection sunday which we have not had in quite some time.

This thread is really more to let those that do not know, do not miss this team it is one of the most athletic and deepest teams LSU has ever had. Skill wise all 9 are SEC caliber and they play extremely hard on both ends with only about 25% of the entire offense and defense truly implemented.

Looking forward to a great rest of the year.

The basketball team this year has been a joy to watch so far, I really hope people don't miss out on it just because football season isn't over yet

Memphis has some talent there too, including 3 top 50 players from this last recruiting class. It was a good win for our young team.

I sat right behind the bench tonight and our greatest asset is how deep we can go. We can afford to take fouls and change groups which is huge. The amount of talent on our team is crazy but it still comes off as rough in game play. The team is young but if we get things clocking like we should then we could be really fricking good

For the first time in a long time this team can finally bring 4 guys off the bench and not lose a step on the court. The depth and bench will win games LSU has historically lost. It's why LSU struggled so much last year. Reath and Epps never got a break and they really struggled with no depth.

things that are standing out to me so far

defense has to give up something and they are choosing the 3. that strategy banks on opponents not hitting an unreal percentage which happened in the first 2 games. memphis came back down to earth and lsu won comfortably. this is going to be the result most of the season when lsu defends this way

we all know that reid is as advertised but emmitt williams is quickly playing himself into the league. tall and incredibly athletic. tireless off the ball. never gives up on a rebound. tough defender. he will have plenty of highlight reel plays this season. double double kind of player. i would imagine the scouts are drooling.

days is the same kind of player just a little bigger, not quite as athletic but, this is splitting hairs. really, really good player.

strangely enough, if skylar can finish consistently, he is going to be a force. smart, athletic player that can beat a defender inside or outside.

i had no idea how explosive marlon taylor is. wow. he's just buried beneath a bunch of superstars. kind of like guice behind fournette.

i'm most impressed with the defense. wade is clearly managing the egos and getting the team to buy in to chemistry. not easy to do with these superstars. maybe the best aspect of wade's results so far this season. i expected the defense to take much longer to come around but they have been solid right out of the gate. their body language seems to be encouraging. i don't see players getting frustrated with each other or players noticeably slacking off.

auburn is the worst matchup for lsu. smaller, faster, crazy athletic, unreal confidence, unrelenting. other than that, i think lsu is going to be problem for every team in the conference. the tigers don't do much to beat themselves and they can attack in so many different ways.

Reath and Epps
wow. crazy those were our 2 best bigs last year. i really liked both of them (when epps decided to actually start trying) but i'm not sure how either of them would get any playing time this year. both reid and kbw are upgrades. not the same position but williams and days are definitely better too. way more athletic

I love this team. You can tell they like playing with each other, they want to win and they play hard a frick. That's all you can ask for from your team. Last night our two best players didn't have great scoring nights but we still dropped near 90.

Javonte has been great but you can see he is gonna be a stud same with emmit and days. All three of those fresh bring it every possession.

Love it. Love the team. Love will Wade.

Actually SELA was really bad from 3, it was just Parker Edwards who was hitting any 3's. Think everyone else was something like 1 of 15 from 3. He was 6 of 8 from 3 (So still about 30% for the team).

This I kind of really disagree with. Williams is a multi-year college player. He's really short, and he has shown basically no game outside of around the rim so far. You just cant make it in the NBA as a 6'6 true around the rim PF instead of stretch 4. He needs to find a shot if he wants to be drafted highly. If he was 6'8 or 6'9, his athleticism would get him drafted alone, but not at 6'6.

Days really has a decent 3 point shot and is a big dude by comparison. He doesnt possess near the athleticism of Williams, but they both are offensive rebounding machines.

Taylor is a good prospect, he showed off already what he can do this year, not sure what was going on last night but clearly not his night, especially that 0 for 2 at the line.

I agree about Auburn, they are going to be our worst matchup, many guys who can light it up from 3 and we still obviously are struggling how to figure out how to defend the 3. We did make great adjustments in the 2nd half though in defending the 3 as Wade said he went to zone and it actually worked like it did last year against Memphis. Unfortunately, that aint working on Auburn

Memphis had some good looks at the basket inside and missed some as well. I don't think the effort on defense is all that lacking, but the execution is right now.

It's really, really, early in the season, so there is no reason to panic just yet. But, right now this isn't a good defensive team. They are ranked 125 in adjusted defense. That's easily the worst of the top 75 teams (on the flip side, LSU is ranked 15th in adjusted offense). History has shown that if you want to be a big factor in March, a team generally has to AT LEAST be in the top 50 defensively. (Ex. last season Villanova was #11, Loyola Chi. #17, Michigan #3

Again, they've only played 3 games. It's not freakout time. However, they have to start showing some improvement (which they did vs. Memphis to some extent). If come early/mid December LSU is ranked in the 100's in defensive efficiency then there will be some cause for concern.

Offensively they are fine. The offense itself can get stagnant at times, but the individual talent can overcome that. Plus, Waters can create an offense by himself. When everything falls apart, you can just put the ball in his hands and let him get a good look for either himself or his teammates. I don't worry about the scoring. That will be there.

I watched the game last night. Missed the first 2, so this was my first opportunity to get a glimpse of a team that Will Wade constructed himself.

What really stands out to me about Wade is that he seems to understand the importance of momentum, and how much that can impact the outcome of a game.

For example, the momentum of the game totally shifted when Skylar Mays hung dong in that dude's face. More importantly, Memphis quickly started going on like a 7-0 run in the 2nd half and he called timeout.

Can't tell you how many times I watched Johnny Jones let a team go on a 15-0 run while his players were huffing and puffing on the court and he wouldn't call a timeout.

Great post. Although I do feel like we improve on defense more than we will on offense with this young team. Said it a few times already, but these guys are just making mistakes from being young that are going to drive Wade crazy, but when he gets them fixed they are going to be scary. I feel strongly that we have a shot in every game we could possibly play this season that is currently on the schedule. Even if we got Nova in the advocare.

It's these types of things that make you really appreciate what Wade brings to the table as a coach.

Under Johnny he would keep that timeout in his pocket unless it got way out of hand, where we would lose the lead and they go on a 13-0 type run before calling a TO. Wade really understands how to use his 4 time outs effectively. You really feel like they are never wasted. Yet he rarely uses all 4 in a game.

Wade just understands the game of basketball so well for a guy as young as he is. Consider the fact he spent most of his career under Smart, yet look at the difference in how both are turning out. Smart at Texas is still really trying to figure things out yet Wade is here and really has a grasp on how to play the game. I watched the Texas/Arkansas game and if Texas was intelligent at all on offense they win that game easily in regulation, instead, they kept jacking up so many 3's they kept missing and let Arkansas stick around the whole game. Very fortunate to pull that game out despite Arkansas being in almost total rebuild mode.

Love the athleticism of this team and how deep we are but defense is really concerning so far. Specifically at the 3 point line and how bigby-williams and reid work together. They can't both go for blocks everytime. Hopefully they can get that figured out before florida st.

my point was, take away unusual, ridiculous percentage and lsu wins all three games easily and perimeter d isn't a "concern."

if i had a nickle for every time someone tried to pigeon hole a player. who would have thought temple would have had a super long career in the nba with absolutely no offensive game whatsoever? totally breaks the mold of the 1v1 nba game. if you watch williams' highlights, he's got the skills. he can hit the outside shot and is a decent passer.

right now this isn't a good defensive team
i think that's overstating the matter and brady agrees in the postgame analysis. we're outrebounding opponents. we're getting more steals and turnovers. teams are not shooting a good percentage against lsu. lsu hasn't been in foul trouble.

the defensive stats will reflect that as the season goes on. right now, espn bpi still has lsu at 61. there's no way on earth there are 60 teams better than lsu. you know that number is going to creep up steadily. also, lsu's s.o.s. is inexplicably low. slu is decent, uncg is probably a tourney team and memphis has the roster to be a tourney team.

regardless, lsu doesn't have to be wisky defensively. they just need to be good enough to give the offense a chance.

Temple was also a 4-year player. My point is Williams really doesnt seem like a 1 and done right now, he's got height and extended offensive game holding him back for now. He can fix 1 of those 2, but he hasn't taken a single 3 pointer this year yet, it's just not really that much a part of his game to handle the ball or play far away from the rim right now. I'm not saying that's bad, what he can do he does great, but in terms of leaving after 1 year, he's just no there right now. It's really really tough to see an NBA team drafting a 6'6 true under rim PF, he's going to have to extend his game over time. He also only has 1 assist in 3 games, ball handling and passing are not strong suits there. His game is scrapping around the rim almost 100% right now.
