Although these first few games wasn’t stellar by any means, what you can say is that there have been improvement on a game by game basis.
What is your prediction as we go into SEC play? Do we end up with an elite defense at the end of the year and the potential Broyles nominee?

I don’t care what the National total defense ranking is.
The one P5 team we played had their way with our defense. McNeese was so outmanned you can’t really take anything from that game
They played well vs CM with only a couple busted plays.
Let’s see what they do vs State before we make any declarations that they are really a good unit.

Yep. We’ll learn a lot about this unit against state and Auburn over the next two weeks. Missing Anthony will sting a little but others are capable of stepping up.

Dude I'll agree with ya on everything except for the fact that our D didn't show this type of improvement last year against any opponent
We are headed in the right direction.

How we played against McNeese and Central Michigan is irrelevant. I’ll wait to pass judgment until we get through the upcoming stretch of Miss State, Auburn, Kentucky, Florida, Ole Miss.
And that's not even considering Bama, Arky, and A&M await after that.

total defense is a misleading stat, especially after 3 weeks and 1 fcs opponent. But I agree I don't think the defense ends up being the weak link of the team.

The other teams have played a mediocre schedule as well.

Dline is OK. Linebackers C minus. Defensive back play (As a group) F. Go blame that on your coach. Show me where Cory Raymond is a great X’s & O’s coach. I’ve seen enough of him without being protected by Dave Aranda or Bill Busch or anyone else.
I find it hilarious that people keep pushing his name for a DC job when nobody will hire him as a DC. Dave Aranda had to bring in a “safeties“ coach just to stabilize the backend of the defense.

The defense will be rightly questioned until they prove they can stop a decent power 5 offense. The busted plays against CMU did not give me a lot of hope.

Internal DL is great, elite with depth. Outside DLs are average but above average for pass rush. LBs are horrible. CBs are great, Safeties basically don't exist i.e. horrible.
Safeties and LBs are very weak. The rest is great, so you end up with an average D.

That’s true but we didn’t have a McNeese or CM to beat up on last year either.
I’m not saying there has not been significant improvement but I want to see it vs SEC teams before I believe it

Ooo I like this game. Now do our rushing offense.

CR is the Rantknocker (Tiger Rant Fartknocker) GOAT DB Coach.
He didn't fix shite last season in that Chinese Fire Drill and hasn't fixed the busted assignments/crossing routes assignment dysfunction again this season.
Time to put or shut up. If it aint fixed completely against Moo U, then it's probably not gonna be fixed and will only get worse as we play SEC teams with a pulse.

This is the sad part.
What are SEC teams going to do. A few couple of busted plays can easily cost LSU the game.

Was LSU’s defense ever ranked that high at any point last year?
Posted on 9/21/21 at 7:49 am to BayouBengal21
I’ll wait until some of the injured safeties return before I judge that group.

We played McNeese and the MAC. Don’t print the shirts just yet Ed.
