LSU will close out Coach Brian Kelly’s inaugural season at Orlando’s Camping World Stadium on 1/2/23 vs Purdue in the Citrus Bowl.

Then, 245 days later, they will kickoff season two under Kelly in the same stadium vs FSU on 9/3/23.

LSU (9-4) finished the 2022 regular season ranked #17, while Purdue (8-5) was unranked.

Purdue’s 5 losses were to:

Team…..Record……Ranking*
Penn St…..(10-2)….. #11
Syracuse....(7-5)…..N/R
Wisconsin.…(6-6)…..N/R
Iowa……….(7-5)……..N/R
Michigan…..(13-0)…..#2

LSU lost to:
FSU (9-3) #13
Tenn (10-2) #6
TA/M (5-7) N/R
UGA (13-0) #1

BTW, LSU also defeated #5 Bama (10-2) and #22 MSU (8-4). Purdue did not defeat a team that finished in the top 25 poll.

*Rankings based on final regular season CFP poll.

Terrible. The FSU series should have been home and home

Only if football operations doesn't step up and move the Grambling game to week 0. This needs to be done ASAP. frick waiting around only to have Florida St (and UCLA previously) do that shite to us.

We are paying Grambling anyway, just throw them an extra $100K if they balk. It gives us the obvious pre-season type game before the Orlando trip, and it gives us a bye-week between FSU and Miss State.

That’s not how week zero games work. You have to meet NCAA conditions to play a week zero game. Generally one of the 2 teams in the game has to play a game that season outside the continental 48 states. The policy is that a team playing that type of an away game needs an extra bye week. The usual scenario is one of the teams plays Hawaii.

So unless Grambling is making that trip, we don’t get to just move the game. Now we could drop Grambling and find a team on Hawaii’s schedule that would play us, but I’m not sure the PR over dropping GSU is going to go over well.

Because LSU decided to throw both Grambling and Southern a $700k bone in the summer of 2020.

Thanks, I didnt realize that. And nahh, you cant drop Grambling. The backlash could explode on you.

These are the games that took place week 0 last year. Seems like a couple of them involved HBCU's. Obviously, I do not know the rules about this, but I would do anything in my power to get that game moved.

LSU was breaking in a brand new coaching staff, more than half a roster that wasn’t on campus the previous season. Be glad we didn’t get our asses handed to us. Florida State is a good team.

Purdue was neck n neck with Penn state had the lead most of the game. They also lost a wild game at Syracuse..3 scoring changes in the last 2 minutes

Good point on the HBCU observation. Could be a new rule/reg that allows it.

The playcalling by Purdue down the stretch in the PSU game was asinine. They had a multi-score lead and just needed to run the clock out. Instead, they continued trying to throw the ball which led to PSU getting back into it.

Team should scribble a message into the locker room wall waiting for them for the FSU game.

I wonder who FSU will play in their warm up game before they play us this time?

Plot Twist:

LSU/Florida A&M and Florida St/Southern are playing in a jamboree at Memorial Stadium week 0. Free tickets are available at Shoe Town (limit 4 per customer). There will be a pee-wee football game at halftime, and a postgame fish fry for all four teams.

How would you justify that? You can play a team who travels to Hawaii in week 0, you can play in week 0 if you are in an out-of-the-country game, and the NCAA will grant waivers for certain circumstances and special event games.

UCLA did it last minute because Hawaii had an opening. FSU scheduled Duquesne almost a year in advance.

Honestly, though, there may be a rationale you could use to have one of these as a kickoff game every year. Traditional southern P5 vs HBCU. Could work
