Bubble Watch:

The seven teams in the top half of the conference are all locks to make the tournament and also up for regional host bids. Here’s the outlook of the SEC bubble teams:

8. Alabama 12-16
Last Game: #6 MSU
Series Record: 3-7
RPI: 36, SOS: 7

9. Georgia 12-17
Last Game: #12 Ole Miss
Series Record: 3-7
RPI: 46, SOS: 15

10. LSU 12-17
Last Game: @ A&M
Series Record: 4-5 (projected 5-5)
RPI: 22, SOS: 2

11. Kentucky 11-18
Last Game: @ #2 Vanderbilt
Series Record: 3-7
RPI: 67, SOS: 42

———

Summary:

It looks like either 8 or 9 SEC teams get in based on the latest postseason projections. If we win game 3 against A&M, we hopefully get the 8/9 seed in the SECt and beat whoever the other 8/9 seed is to get to the double elimination portion of the bracket and maybe even solidify a regional bid.

LSU needs to win Saturday while Bama AND Georgia both lose for us to get the 8 seed due to tiebreakers. Looks like we’re most likely in if we finish 8th and win the first SECt game, but we’re going to need some help.

At this point I'm only concerned with the 2nd game against Bama. If LSU loses then the Tigers have to win the game on Sunday or they will be out of the NCAA tourney barring winning the SEC tourney, which is highly doubtful.

Not really. I know it’s sounds cliche but literally every single game from here on out is critical. You can win today then lose Sunday. Then lose the weekend series versus A&M and you’re out that way as well.

Also, Auburn is a bad comp because of who they beat to get to 14-16. They swept Tennessee who was a top 25 team. Won a game vs State who was #4. Won a game vs #9 Arky. A game vs #9 A&M. Won a series vs #17 Ole Miss. won a game vs #7 UGA. A game vs #20 LSU. The only team that swept them was #4 Vandy. They were competitive every weekend. They won two series vs ranked teams, one of them being a sweep. LSU will only have one good series win.

Unless we are losing it’s not going to move much the rest of the way given who’s left to play.

Bottom line,
If we cannot take care of business against Bama and A&M then it doesn't matter if we make the post season because we will not go very far if we even get in!?

Its up to 20, it was 21 a couple days ago. 14-16 will have lsu with a top 25 rpi and top 5 SOS guaranteed

If we win next two our RPI in the teens will be highest of season entering new week fwiw. ELO which is like footballs FPI currently highest it’s been all season too at #12. Yet to be seen but we could end up peaking at right time. Wouldn’t be out of character for us to do around the time of SECt.

Whats weird, is that the predicted rpi a couple days ago was like 17-18 for lsu with a 14-16 record. Now its 11-19 with an rpi of 25. If 11-19 gets us #25, then 14-16 should def have us top 20

I know what you’re talking about. The WN site is weird and the predicted results will jump around like that. No idea why unless it runs some kind of simulation to come up with different results each time.

Last week it was 20 is my point. It was at 21 or 22 after the Auburn loss. Point being there isn’t much room to move even with wins.

Seriously, Forget RPI. It’s bad most years but this year it’s shite with leagues playing conference only games.

Its going to be one of like 3 metrics on the sheet the committee is looking at when making decisions, so i think it has to play some part, though may be weighted less

We are regurgitation points made all week. Cohen. Conferences. 2006. 2011. Means nothing because the committee won’t be predictable anyway.
