A buddy and I are wanting to go to an away game this year. We're thinking State or Florida. We'd really like to go to the Florida game because of how big of a game it has become but I've heard Florida fans and police don't treat LSU fans too good, especially once we kick their arse and ruin their homecoming and their national championship ring ceremony, I'm sure they'll treat us pretty bad. Anyone on here have some gameday experience and advice for Gainesville? Thanks and GEAUX TIGERS!!!!

Gainesville isn't as bad as a lot of people make it sound. Just be careful with your alcohol.

So underage drinking could be an issue at Florida?

As long as you're not obnoxious you should be fine.

Gainesville sucks. I'll never go back. At least to the campus. If you're in some bar and grill or whatever, sure but if you're on campus, here you go:

The fans treat you like crap, which is expected but if you're drinking, I'm not talking about being hammered, just the regular shooting the stuff with friends, the campus PD will seek you out and embarrass you, make you pour it out and sometimes even make you take down your tailgate. I've seen them do it.

They'll say nothing to the Gator fans that are doing the exact same thing you're doing.

Never again. I haven't been to many away games but I have been to Gainesville.

If you're drinking and wearing the opponents gear, plan on at least having the campus PD check you out.

I swear they love doing it.

I went to Auburn 3 times in a row- 2004, 2006 (what a waste of talent LM!!), and 2008

Tailgate all you want and no problems. They tried to act cocky in the stadium but me and my friends are some big fellas and all was good

If I had a choice this year it'd easily be Knoxville. It will be awhile before LSU plays there again and would be a very fun trip.

I went in 14 and it was a pretty good experience. No issues at all.

That's a long way to go just to find a fight.

I would recommend Tennessee game. Expect to be bothered by campus police if you're drinking. Not to mention you have to deal with Florida fans

I suggest you find a LSU tailgate party if you are traveling with a small group so you will have somewhere to hang out prior to kickoff. UF fans were not very nice back in 2010, and I can only imagine how they will act this year after the events of 2016. Walking around the streets of campus with an open container will probably get you in trouble, so be careful. I suggest you buy a cheap LSU t-shirt, cut off the sleeves, and wear a nice pair of jean shorts so you can fit in with the local fanbase.

Went to Gainesville once, back in '06. They had signs referring to Katrina saying "Tigers swim home" and fans yelling in my face as we left the stadium. Before the game, my roommate and I went to breakfast at some little place and they undercooked something I don't know but we both got sick and were puking before and after the game (we weren't drinking at all, we were 20 and didn't know how strict the cops were there). frick Gainesville.

The Swamp is one of the best places to watch a college football game. Florida fans do frick with you, but not really any worse than LSU fans. If you take it in the right frame of mind and return the smack, it's harmless fun. The stadium is loud and has a lot of energy. I highly recommend it.

As for the cops with open container stuff, just drink in one of the several bars along the street across from the stadium and you won't have to worry about it.

If your choices are down to Florida and Miss. St., Florida is by far the better one.

Yeah this. They are sore winners though. After we lost in 2013 they were pretty rough leaving the stadium. Before the game though, they invited us to tailgate, and we had a great time.

I've been to every SEC venue but A&M and Mizzou. Florida is hit and miss. I've been three times, and had my best and worst away experience in successive trips to Florida. The worst was 2008 when Tebow kicked our arse. The fans were God awful after. But like I said, I've also had one of my best trips ever there. So, they can be good and bad. I wouldn't expect much good this year.

Regardless of Florida, if I had to pick an away game this year, it'd be Tennessee. Go get a cabin in Gatlinburg for a few nights before the game. Awesome experience.

Went to Gainesville in 2010 when we beat them with the bounce pass fake FG. Florida fans are tame compared to Arkansas. They do have pretty strict open container laws, so drink from a cup and not just a beer in a coozie. Most of the good LSU tailgaiting was off campus at the RV lots. Rode a bus to and from the game. It was a long arse drive with a hangover though. State isn't bad, except you're in Starkvegas. Ole Miss trip should be a pretty easy trip this year as the Bears ought to look like whipped dogs by that point in the season. Why not go to Bama?

Gainesville is pretty lame. Been twice and had mixed results. Campus is huge, very spread out with no real dedicated tailgate area, and the Gator fans mostly just kinda stand around quietly.

We were out there at 10 AM thinking we were running late and it was a ghost town until noon. Eventually found a big LSU tailgate, only to have UF fans constantly coming over asking to turn the music down.

So yeah. It's pretty lame compared to LSU's campus. From what I understand they go hard Friday night at the bars, and then of course post-game, but they don't glorify the tailgating culture as much as we do. They all sleep in and shuffle out there in the early afternoon, which is unheard of to me.

The Swamp is a great place to watch a game though. I will say that.

This, we won't be back at Tennessee for 13 years?
