Slackster, do you host a tailgate? How many people attend your award winning tailgate? Does every single person who steps foot onto your location attend the game?

Must be nice to have a job that when the budget is cut, you just gouge your constituents(ticket holders)for more money.

I think the LSU AD understands the economic situation clearly. The AD and Chancellor may not be good managers, but they understand the economies.

I love how every thread devolves into a classism bitch fest. 1st no one in this thread is any better or worse than anyone else. 2nd what does 2 parking passes in the furthest pay lot cost yearly? If it is less than the $560 annually I will be spending for a truck and trailer in a non reserved lot I have major issues with that. I have also read that garbage collection is figured into season ticket cost. I have 2 season tickets, shouldn't this give me free access to a non reserved lot.

What section are your basketball tickets in?

I'm a season ticket holder looking to upgrade.

Maybe if I tell them yours are coming up next year I can get the inside track.

I'm all in favor of an excess littering fine of $500 to those who trash campus

Hey ,
I Golfer with your post, i didn't renew basketball tickets and will cut TAF money. Only problem we have is, guess what will happen to ticket prices/tradition fund? I will still buy football tickets up to a point, so I think they have us cornered till the on-field product won't entice us to pay these fees. I hope that is a long time coming! I love LSU sports too much to want to see prices come down cause we even remotely resemble the football program from the Archer/ Hallman/Dinardo days.

The self-righteous nature of most in this thread is appalling. LSU owes you nothing. If you do not want to pay, park somewhere else. If you will not go to the games, someone else will. If the $120 will put you over the edge next year, you were not going to make it anyway and LSU games should be the least of your concern. Everyone is bitching about their wife or kids or grandparents or buddies not being able to just drive up and tailgate. They feel as though it is a tradition and LSU is stealing it from them. I say this - If your buddy/wife/kids/grandpa will not pay $20 to spend the afternoon tailgating and drinking and partying with friends, then said person was not having as much fun as you thought. To be frank, your tailgate was not worth $20 to them. I know your ego hurts when you read something like that, but you will get over it and continue coming to games and paying the money. If you don't, there is a line of people waiting to take your place who also think they are Mr. Stud Tailgater, yet they are obviously not as self-righteous as you are, so LSU will be better off anyway! /rant.

this man said everything I was thinking

While I don't necessarily take issue with the fact that the athletic department is strapped for cash and may need to do this, I do agree with Charles Hanagriff's assessment from the other night that it's disingenous to do something like this without also finding ways to cut expenses in the other sports (example: home-and-home with mid-majors for men's hoops and trips to California for the women's team).

I know they have made changes to the basketball, baseball, and womens basketball schedules. They changed a couple games to bussing instead of flying, a 2 night stay becomes a 1 night stay. Even the band has had to endure some changes as well.

Agreed BT, but the point is it costs a lot of money to make that "go away".

Yes it does, as a result LSUathletics has to pay more for trash pickup and will pass some of the expense onto its fans in form of parking fees.

Golfer, do you know the guys from those trashy pics? looks like they would be right next to you. That's who you should be bitching to

And to all of you people who organize tailgates who will now be stopping due to the parking fees: please give me a detailed description of where your spot is. I am looking to upgrade

So what about the 15 to 30 thousand that show up with no tickets ?

That entitles you to get in to the game. Nothing more.

If the cleaning/operations side of the massive tailgates is a huge financial drain, then fine, I agree something should be charged.

But why so much? If this fee were maybe half or a third of what is currently being proposed, the outcry would be far smaller and people would mostly just accept it.....and tailgating would be largely unaffected. This has the feel of being taken advantage of, much like $8.50 beers at a ballgame or concert

Just too drastic, IMO

Not disagreeing with you, but the women's basketball schedule is inexcusable under these circumstances. Road trips to: Chicago, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Los Angeles. They fly up to NJ to play two games, fly back to BR to play Tulane, and then fly right back to the same region to play in CT. Absurd.

after the West Virginia game and the amount of trash on campus was appauling, LSU had to hire several additional trash service contractors to help with the mess. LSU was going to charge for parking eventually but this really got the ball rolling faster.
