And you obviously have no idea that LSU is on the verge of extinction w/ these lovely budget cuts!
Hopefully this is sarcasm because no they aren't. They are going back to 2007 budget levels.

Maybe 3-4k cars at most?
LSU has over 35,000 parking spots on campus. About 80% of those will now be paid lots.
And there were 28 trailers just in the vicinity of the parade ground on Saturday. Not to mention, those who already have reserved spots and rv's will have to pay $50/game to have their trailers out there too.

Link. I cannot find anything about the number of spots.
Link?
You counted?
Tack on another 1,000 then, AT MOST. 50K a game. 300k for 2011. That is a drop in the bucket.

I was incorrect on 35k...don't remember why I had that number in my head from a conversation with Gary Graham. I'd add another 2,000 for the Hayfield lots which are not included in this number.
quote:
We have over 23,500 spaces . They are located all over campus but some are in the outlying lots that are a 10 minute walk away from the center of campus.
And just look at the map now for campus. Its pretty clear that about 80% of it is now paid parking.

Yes, while I was standing in line for the bathroom. I counted 28 trailers within eyesight.

Ok. 25,000 spots. I think Hayfield is much closer to 1,500, but we will go with your numbers.
Here is another tid bit of information. LSU nets $2.2 million for a home game against a "non-BCS level program." LINK
Recently, LSU has played 8 home games a year. This year they played 7 games and the Chick-fil-a Classic which paid them like a home game. Consider 2011, where they will only play 6 home games and the Oregon game. If LSU nets $2.2M per home game against non-BCS teams, you could conservatively estimate that they net an average of $2.5M per game. Over 8 games, that is $20M profit. In 2011, they will net 6*2.5 for $15M, plus the Oregon game ($3.5M gross), for a total of $18.5M in profit at MOST. They are starting the year off with a $1.5M shortage compared to 2010 levels. Coupled with the additional $1.4M they are supposed to absorb in budget cuts, and you are looking at a $2.9 million dollar shortage, at least.
Now, $2.9 million must be made up some how. Even with parking, the athletic department is still going to have to be creative. If you think that parking will take care of the entire shortfall, you are mistaken, but it is a good start. In order for parking fees to cover the entire shortage, they would need $483,333 per game in parking revenue, at least. Assuming every parking dollar is profit, which obviously would not be the case, that is roughly $20 per spot at 25,000 spots. LSU is not going to come close to that revenue from this new fee. There are, at MOST, 2000 trailers on campus. That is $100,000 in fees. Looking at the new map, I would say 40% of the lost are the new pay-per-game lots (30% look to be $20 lots and about 10% look to be $40 lots). Using your 25K parking spaces estimate, it reasons that the new policy will add $100,000 in $40/spot revenue and $150,000 in $20/spot revenue. That puts the total revenue added from this new policy at $350,000, well short of the $483,333 that the university would need per game to account for the budget cuts.
Paying these fees are part of the solution to the budget cuts across the university. They are not fun, but they are necessary.

Last time they played 8 at home was 2006 and 2007, the first years in which 12 games were allowed. And LSU is making more by playing Oregon at a neutral site than they would at home. The 8 home games aren't going to be the norm. 7, yes...8 no.

No, they are not. I really wish LSU Athletics would come out and say it since this idea has been in place for a number of years now.
They decided to use the budget cuts as a scapegoat.
We are getting off topic though. Substitution will occur with this and I believe it will be larger than most think.

Huh? You just admitted that LSU has scheduled 8 home games every year since 2006 and the advent of the 12-game schedule. LSU would have had 8 games this year had they not dropped Tulane in favor of the Chick-fil-A game. 8 games will be the norm when possible, and 7 games plus a neutral site if not.

Meh, the article says they will GROSS 3.5M for the game. Figuring in expenses for travel and what not, it is impossible to say if they will NET more than they would for a home game with Oregon. Even so, they are still playing only 6 real home games. The lost revenue must be made up, and couples with budget cuts, they university is trying to be creative.

The ancillary cost is mandatory at 3% (as of 2006) of income. However, LSU athletics also make "donations" to the Chancellor's Excellence fund which can be used at his discretion for academic programs, as well as the Classroom Building Fund for renovations of classrooms. If you think for a moment that the LSU Academic side does not see the potential revenue from the LSU Athletic Department, you are kidding yourself. The more LSU Athletics makes in income, the higher the ancillary expense paid to the university. The more surplus that LSU athletics creates, the higher the donations to the Chancellor's Fund, which can directly fund the other budget shortfalls. Cmon, I know you can understand how this works.

No. LSU has only had 8 home games in 2006 and 2008.
So 50% of the time in the first 6 years we will have played 8.

I tailgate with a group of friends that have been together since we all got out of LSU in the 80's. We just don't need that much stuff. 2 tents, a TV, couple of tables, 2 large 120qt chests of beer and great friends, and add some food. What more do you need? just don't see the need for 2 travel trailer ! It's overkill. Once we all turned 50, it was way too much trouble to bring all that stuff. It should be about the GAME, remember that ?

8 in 2006
7 in 2007
8 in 2008
7 in 2009
7 + Chick-fil-A in 2010
6 + Oregon in 2011
7+ in 2012
7+ in 2013
So, through 2010, LSU has played 8 games that produced home-game revenue in 3 out of 5 seasons. 60% of the time. 7 games would be the minority. Next year is in the minority and is coupled with budget cuts.

No way. LSU owes me something. I have a right to park my pick up and trailer on their campus on Saturdays in the fall. My 8 friends who drive in their separate pick ups also have a right to park around my trailer. They should also be allowed to park their trailers for free if they want. LSU owes this to me!

Please explain why you need two trailers for you tailgate? What do you put in there ? Not tring to start anything, but couldn't you just bring what you could fit in your SUV and leave the trailers at home?

I know that but it is not far removed from the prevailing attitude of most on the Rant regarding this subject.

Most seem to want a logistical plan outlined from LSU on exactly how this is going to work.
I'm willing to bet they can't execute this without difficulty next season.
