A buddy sent a link to me yesterday that tells a story and worries me about the future of our flagship agenda. He didn't want to bring it up publicly, and I was hesitant, but...
The team we will hopefully beat up Saturday afternoon represents a university whose freshman class this year has an average ACT of 30. The middle 50% at FL achieved ACT scores from 28-32. At LSU? Middle 50% achieved 23-28. That means 25% scored a 22 or lower. 40,000 students applied for 6400 seats in UF's freshman class because they want to be a part of a quality academic environment. Meanwhile, LSU boasts its "highest quality freshman class in history," a class where nearly one in four students ranked in the BOTTOM HALF OF THEIR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATING CLASS! FKA says they are the "most academically successful...group we've ever brought in." His own statistics suggest otherwise...and suggest a lessening in the value of an LSU degree for all us in the future. LINK

I’d venture to say less than 10% of ranters graduated from LSU

If I cheered for academics I'd be a Stanford fan. But, I cheer for sports. So, Geaux Tigers!

It’s because tops is entirely too easy to get and our university is all about maximizing revenue and doesn’t give a shite about quality. Just my 4 cents

Forgive me if I don't let the sky fall over the average class ranking. There couldn't be a less significant indicator of academic success.

The difference between populations of Florida and Louisiana plays a major difference in the issue. Same with Texas or Georgia and Louisiana. The larger states have more money, more students and can be more selective at their flagship schools. That said, LSU should maintain strong standards, but don’t expect them to be the same as Florida, A&M, and Georgia.

It’s been a steady decline for years.
BAMA and A&M are also light years ahead of LSU in academics

Why would you consider this the 'lowering' of standards.

LSU has never been considered an elite academic institution, even though one can certainly obtain a wonderful education there, as many of us have done.

Our recruitment pool is the state of Louisiana, which consistently ranks in the 48 - 50 range in terms of education.

This is not an LSU problem. It's a Louisiana problem. We don't value education as much as we should. It's not a priority for many of us. Many in our state actually mock people for striving to become educated. The word 'education' itself is uttered with a certain level of mockery and contempt.

So what. LSU... best 6 years of my life. I didn't even buy a single book in the last two years. So what. It's not that important once out in the wild where you have to prove yourself. You older people know this...

Just an other tidbit: Starting salary medians and 10-year salary medians for LSU grads is higher than Alabama, Missouri, Kentucky, Georgia, South Carolina, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State. The difference between the numbers for LSU, Florida, and Auburn is negligible. Only Vandy and A&M have a significantly higher number for salary medians above LSU.

Yeah. We’re in a budget deficit so we should take less students and make less money.

It’s Florida week a-hole

If I made a 32 on my ACT LSU and Florida would be two of the last places I'd be going

Like Hap Glaudi use to say "people do not go to Tiger Stadium to watch someone take an ACT Test"
