Louisiana could be on the precipice of a really special era in sports. Of course, several things have to fall into place for it to occur.

LSU football must continue to be an explosive juggernaught while continuing as a premier defensive team. Be a regular in the college playoffs which will mean surpassing BAMA and holding off Florida and Georgia for league supremacy.

Will Wade needs to take the program to the next level with monster recruiting classes , contending for and playing in the Final Four.

Down the road in New Orleans the Pelicans are on the verge of becoming a premier team in the NBA, needing only a little more seasoning and wisely utilizing the draft picks received for Anthony Davis and strategic free agent shopping.

The Saints have a young and talented roster which will be missing Drew Brees in a year or two. While there will be an inevitable drop off if Jameis Winston , Taysom Hill or some veteran free agent QB can minimize the gap the Saints could remain a contender for the foreseeable future.

This may be more than a dream with good fortune with injuries, officiating and victories in the right games. It could be one hell of a ride into the middle of this decade.

The problem has and will continue to be that no big free agents want to come play in NOLA unless you pay out the arse for them.

With the team being assembled through the draft they won't need to get the mega stars free agents, just the complimentary veterans like J J Redick. To keep the LSU / N. O. meme going, a player like Garret Temple would be ideal to bring locker room presence and on court leadership. JJ and Garret could talk about old times .

LSU will hopefully be competing at the highest level in almost every sport before long. Already there with football, baseball/softball, gymnastics, t&f.

Agreed. Also beach volleyball and golf are strong. Need to get women's basketball and court volleyball to raise their level.

I was just referencing the higher media profile sports.

New Orleans is becoming a shite hole. They need a new mayor who is not corrupt and not attached at the hip of Shiela Jackson Lee of Houston. Both ignorant socialist bitches. La Toya the destroya needs to go back to California where she fits in. The Saints and the Pels (if they aren’t sold in the near future) are the only bright spots.

don't the saints have one of the oldest rosters in the NFL?

No, the most talented core group is under 30 and entering their peak years. Their are a few older veterans like Emmanuel Sanders and Malcolm Jenkins who will add leadership and veteran insight , but those will be interchangeable parts each season. As always the level of QB play will decide how far this team gets every year, but there will be enough talent to keep them in contention.

LSU football and basketball are poised to become the premier SEC programs. Nick will probably coach only another couple seasons and Calipari could scratch that NBA itch again leaving the top of the mountain ripe for the taking.

One of these is possible.

Either Drew Brees is a top 3-4 QB or he is not. If he is, the Saints will drop off in a major way when he retires.

actually Saints have the 8th oldest roster in the NFL, so not sure where you are getting "no" from outside of your own delusion.

What doe sit matte? As I stated the core group of talent on both sieds and on special teams are all with about 5 years or less so they are good for another five years. Having a 42 year old QB and 34 y/o punter can distort the average. The OL and secondary are young and talented, the LB corps has a nice mixture and the DL is young with a good mix of younger veterans. The skill positions are al young and talented. No reason to believe they won't continue to draft on high level.

There will be 16 playoff spots going forward. There is enough talent to get a team with above average QB play into the top 8. Who knows what level of QB they will have even if Drew is gone. The Eagles, Falcons and Rams to name a few recently made the Super Bowl without elite quarterbacks.

The context of this thread is Louisiana becoming the epicenter of the sports world.

Top 8 in the NFL is no great accomplishment and given that there is no baseball or hockey team, the notion is ridiculous.

Edit: Winston does not match up with Goff, Ryan or Wentz/Foles.

Saints had this same problem, until they were able to establish a winning culture. Pelicans can do the same. Establish the culture, and the talented veterans will start to look at New Orleans as a positive destination.

"8th oldest roster" doesn't really mean much in the NFL with the lack of guaranteed money and shorter term of deals. Most of the Saints core is still pretty young. I'd say that's what matters more. The Bills have shown how fast you can turn over a roster in this league so doesn't really matter a whole lot one way or the other.
