Louis Coleman: SP v. RP ?

Ive been leaning towards thinking he should be a weekend starter, but after he came in tonight vs. UK and bailed us out, Im undecided. It looks like Mainieri might leave him in the pen for a while, and Im wondering what other LSU fans think

See Joba Chamberlain debate.

I think we need him to stay in the pen. You have to have someone to come in and get you out of trouble when needed.

I say Coach might know better than us

Coleman could do either, but if you make him a starter, then who closes?
I don't seem anyone who would definitely fill that role successfully. So, I'd leave Coleman right where he is.

Leave him where he is. Definitely better if you could use him 2-3 x's a weekend rather than 1. Not to mention with the electric stuff he has it is definitely more difficult for the opposition to figure him only getting 1, at the most 2 looks at him.

Relief with a few cameo starting appearances later to rest the starter rotation.

Using him as a closer will help you win all 3 weekend games vs just 1 as a starter.

I say you use him like we did Bradford the last few years. He is your "closer", but if you don't need him on Friday or Saturday, then he becomes your Sunday starter.

Simple concept. Would you rather your wife take care of you once a week, or three times a week?

pen.
with the kind of torque he puts on his elbow with his specific type of delivery, he'll be having tommy john by the time he's 23 if he starts and does not change his arm angle.
Just because he may be the 'best pitcher' or have the 'best stuff' doesn't mean that he's also suited to throw the most innings. Maybe he is 'the best pitcher' and has 'the best stuff' (again, with that specific arm rotation) because he is limited in his innings).
31 is right, it is exactly the Joba debate. And FWIW, and for his long-term success, I think Joba has no business being in the Yankees' rotation either...especially when its painfully obvious that he's going to be Mo's successor in the 9th inning when he finally decides to retire.
...ok, maybe comparing Lou Coleman to Joba and Mo is a little silly.

Or, would you rather have intercourse one time a week with your wife and finish it off yourself, or get blown (which is not what you really want a closer to do) three times a week by the wife with no intercourse preceding.

What??? Not sure if you're saying he will blow 3 games a week, or you can't finish in bed?

I think he means on her knees, as opposed to having intercourse.

It made a helluva lot more sense in my head than it did after posting. Ok, carrying from the other dudes post, would you rather get the whole deal once a week, or just get finished off three times a week. Coleman as starter and potential for a complete game, or just closing. Again, this makes sense only in my head.

What's that got to do with using Coleman 3 times a week instead of 1 time a week. As long as my wife helps me finish (win) three times a week, I'm happy.

It's not "just closing." When Ranauldo and Paxton started wearing out, they both started getting hit up. When Ranauldo came out, we were down by 1 and there were still two guys on base. Then Bertucci came in and loaded the bases and gave them another run, tying the game up. Then, with runners at 3rd and 2nd, and with only 1 out in the inning, we put it big Coleman. Strike-out. Strike-out. Then in the 8th and 9th, Coleman continued to shut down Kentucky.
Coleman was the big hero.
Would you rather get a chance at being the big hero just once a week, or would you rather get a chance at being the big hero three times a week?
Being the stud closer is the coolest position on the team.

Depends upon your philosophy of baseball. But if he gets 2 innings a game three games a week, he has as many innings as a SP will. I think if LSU had another potential closer Coleman would be starting.

Simple idea, leave it up to the person who knows the baseball team the best, the coach. What a novel idea that would be.

Right, would you rather have your week's worth of pitching reduced to a chance to shine in just one game or would you rather have a week's worth of pitching that gives you a chance to shine in three game? I would think most people, including Coleman, would chose to have a chance to shine in 3 games per week instead of one... just like most people would rather get naked in bed with three girls instead of just one.
Now granted, going to bed with one dream girl is better than going to bed with three non-dream girls... and in the only "dream game" so far this season (first game ever at the new box), Coleman got the start.
