Losing to Arky hurts

But it's not the end of the world. The basic problem is that we won't get today off and will have to burn Floyd.
If we win today, we are back in single elimination, anyway, so it's not like we will have to win twice to advance.
The negatives: We won't be throwing Floyd against Arkansas on Saturday. We'll have to go with Coleman and then Johnny Wholestaff on Sunday (unless Little or Money can give us a ton of innings).
The positives: We get to test our pitching staff under pressure. We will be in this situation if go deep at Omaha, and this will be good practice for them. Five games in five days is going to put more pressure on our kids to perform, and pitching/hitting in a "win or go home" situation will be good for us.
In other words, winning yesterday, winning on Saturday with Floyd, and Sunday with Coleman and a well rested bullpen would not challenge our team the way they will be challenged in Omaha.

That is correct. I 100% agree.

Are we pitching Floyd? I haven’t checked

I dont see any way we dont.
Even if he doesnt go deep. This is valuable experience for the next few weeks.

Oh well. Chances are we see them again if we get to Omaha.
Get a little revenge

If LSU is anticipating pitching Floyd in game 1 of the regional it is entirely likely they weren’t planning on him getting extended work on Saturday anyway. In fact, him going today (if that’s what LSU chooses to do) probably allows him to be extended at little further than if he pitched on Saturday
While many fans don’t like it, LSU is not playing to win this tournament. That’s why you saw Skenes pulled in the 5th inning of a 2-2 game with only 88 pitches thrown. That never happens in a regular season game.

Hurd will be the Game 1 regional starter and Floyd will be Game 3.

I’m pretty sure I heard Johnson confirm this on Wednesday.

Jay will find a way to mess up the lineup and overshift the infield. LSU can't get out of their own way and it will come back to bite them again and again.
If they do play Ark again let's see if they can make any adjustments against the lefties or try and do something to mfg some offense because the approach is not working against those guys.

We see them tomorrow as long as we win today. Glad we don't have to wait longer!

Would rather just lose today. 3 games > 5 games in a useless tournament.

I dont care how good you are, if your pitch count is getting high, you let two runs score to tie the game and the bases are loaded, youre probably getting pulled regardless of the situation.

There is no way in hell Skenes would have come out in that situation. Johnson said it himself: Even with an average outing from Skenes he is the best you got. He would have pitched his usual 115 pitches.

No. I'd rather see us go to Sunday and give pitchers some work in tournament setting. We're going to have to play games in week 2 of Omaha with a staff that is cobbled together. We'll have plenty of time to rest after Sunday.

You are seriously one of the worst posters on the site. And that's saying something.

Lol. You are still in double elimination. You are just in the losers bracket.
And skenes threw 40 pitches in his final inning. He was toast.

He’s probably trying to experiment with things and getting certain guys more at bats. I really don’t expect Crews to lead off and Pearson to hit behind him when we get back to more meaningful baseball.
The shifts are a little more concerning.
I don’t even like typing this out, but Dugas is getting worse in the field and he’s not very productive at the plate right now. I could maybe see him turning it up at the plate during regionals, like he tends to do, but his range in the field actually looks like it’s shrinking.
