Looking forward to the 2018 Spring Game

Everyone will be talking up the QB's but I am excited about checking the the play and numbers of OL and DL.
To beat Bama,Georgia,Florida,Auburn and to even be on the field with those guys you have to have the BIGS. It seems Coach O has done a good job of getting LSU back to putting the numbers on the field. The rotation of bigs dropped off for Les during his last 3 to 4 years and it showed.
If you look at the leader of the pack - Nick every year has a stable of NFL ready guys on OL and DL with the Lber's right there. Not only having the 1st and 2nd rounders the NFL is waiting on but the guys coming up with the rotation to keep em all fresh.
One of the things that is impressive about this Bama run Nick has going is his front 7 on D every year. Coach O seems to be attacking this issue at LSU and this is the first thing I am going to watch. What is LSU going to look like on the front 7 with what rotation. OL front 8 rotation will be my second concern and getting a feel for leadership and how the group looks.
Saying all that it is just a Spring game and I understand the number 1 rule is Spring ball is not to get anyone hurt. As being a guy that has not missed a spring game for years it is soft football. Not much pond and grunt and lots of passing.
Truth is I will get to see the arms of MB and LN mainly. Getting to know names of all these new WR's and see if I catch a power I formation a couple of times.
Just a little football fix before Dallas !

We're gonna be very good on both lines this year so that should by itself win us some games and help a thin group of corners.

Have you actually compared the numbers to past years, or are you just repeating the talking points?

absolutely. however, it takes awhile to build up either line. coach O had begun the process on the DL before he became HC and it is much more capable than our OL right now. if Clapp had stayed I would be much happier, but it is what it is. I think our OL will take a few games to gel but should be fairly good this year; I know they have been working a lot on pass protection which has been their weakness in the past with few tackles.
LSU's front 7 has the potential this year to be one of the best in the conference. O and Aranda are going to make it the best over the next few years. The OL is much more of a concern to me and think it will take a couple of more very good recruiting years to get it where it needs to be. finding guys that are stellar in both run blocking and pass blocking is difficult; hopefully our new OL coach is very good at teaching technique.

Already setting the table for a loss to a team that went 4-7 last year
Although we’ve seen what their new coach does to ours with Starkville talent, so I suppose there is reason to be concerned

It’s the only game on the schedule I’m confident O won’t lose, so yea, I’m looking forward to it.

A couple more? I wouldn't call the 2018 class "very good." It filled some needs, but it also failed to fill others and it was well below what we've become accustomed to.

People who say this know nothing about recruiting and don't realize the 2018 is much better than it appears when glancing at the rankings.
To get the actual class ranking one would have to:
Subtract a 4-star safety and add a 5-star cornerback since Kelvin Joseph is being moved to the position he was rated as a 5-star.
Subtract a lower rated 4-star D-lineman and add a higher 4-star to lower 5-star O-lineman since Chasen Hines is moving back to the position he was ranked higher.
Add a very high 4-star or possible 5-star D-lineman in Breiden Fehoko. Who was rated as high as the 53rd player in the country when he came out of high school. He was not included in the rankings because he is a transfer.
Add a WR who was a Biletnikoff Award candidate in COLLEGE after playing QB in high school. He was not included in the rankings because he is a transfer.
Add a TE who was rated as the 123rd overall player in the nation regardless of position by Rivals when he came out of high school. He was not included in the rankings because he is a transfer.

And you know this how? The offensive line is still a big question mark.

That's fine. I'll give you that even though rankings are fluid and there's no guarantee that Joseph and Hines would have remained 5 stars had they stayed at their original positions.

All of these guys committed last year. Transfers are never included in class rankings, so it would make zero sense to add those guys to the 2018 class when comparing that class with prior classes.
I can respect an argument that this class is not as bad as the rankings suggest, but to suggest that this is a very good recruiting class by LSU's standards is laughable.

Prior to entering the stadium, fans can take part in the free block party that will feature the band “Vidalia” along with plenty of activities for the kids

Weren’t these transfers already here plus they dont count towards a particular recruiting class. Transfers never have. This class is good but LSU should be in the top 10 in recruiting. Hope O gets it done this year on the recruiting trail

Two of the transfers are already listed as STARTERS - Fehoko and Giles. The 3rd transfer is listed as the #2 TE already and may start along with Foster.
If a recruiting class had two or three high school players that were known to be starters as soon as they stepped on campus the class would be ranked higher.
IF Joseph and Fehoko were rated as 5-stars that would have been four 5-stars in the class. Almost impossible to NOT be in the top 10 with four 5-stars.

This will be the first time they are eligible to play after sitting out last season.
