LSU could potentially return 17 starters next season. The only real starters who will be without remaining eligibility are Ali Gaye, Micah Baskerville, and Colby Richardson. (Bernard-Converse starts in some packages) The only 2 guys currently projected to be sure fire 1st-2nd round draft picks are Boutte and Ojulari so would expect those 2 to declare

If they could get back guys like Jay Ward, Mekhi Garner, Greg Brooks, J Roy, Jaray Jenkins this team could really be a national title contender next year. Would expect based on this past offseason that they’ll hit the portal to try and fill some immediate needs (OLine, Edge Rusher, CB) as well as the likely Top 5 HS class they’re going to bring in. That doesn’t account for the return of Maason Smith as well and the development of guys like Harold Perkins, Emory Jones, Will Campbell who are already some of our best players as true freshman. Could be a special year next season on the Bayou. Will be interesting to see how Jayden Daniels finishes this year as well and what he does as far as his future after this season.

I thought this is Jaray’s last year of eligibility?

Nope Jaray Jenkins redshirted in 2018. Got a covid year in 2020. He still has 1 year of eligibility remaining after this year. Could come back for a 6th year if he chose to do so.

Wow that’s wild. I gotta think he’s ready to go pro if he gets a good evaluation but would love for him to come back.

Thought this was ward and brooks last yr. We're replacing almost the entire defense. Offense will all be back.

Lose brooks, foucha, ward, converse, Colby, jones, baskerville, roy, ojulari, gaye

Wow, if Jaray would come back, NIL , hint , hint, we would have him, Thomas, Nabors, Bech Mason Taylor at tight end, plus Markaway, the 3 freshman. Man o man

Just think BTJ on one side and Shelton Sampson on the other. Bech Hilton and Nabers in the slot. A more comfortable Jayden Daniels not to mention the o line will be a year stronger. We’re gonna be lethal on Offense.

The entire starting secondary is gone except for hopefully Major Burns and Mekhi Gardner. Brooks isn't going to stay another year.

I think we need a star LB out of the portal. I do not feel good about the guys we have and the ones we have coming in from high school for the 2023 season except for Perkins. Penn has to step up. We need Weeks and Tolan to be good depth. Hell, Tolan might be able to pass up Penn, but who knows.

DL will be rock solid. Savion Jones, Maason Smith, Mekhi Wingo, Jacobian Guillory, Desmond Little, and Quency Wiggins are going to be a damn good group. If we can get one freshman to come in and provide immediate depth, we'll have a great 2 deep.

Jenkins is gone. Had around 400 yards and 2 TDs in the shortened covid year. Had 500 yards and 6 TDs last year, and already has 240 and 4 TDs this year. He more than likely finishes his 3rd year with at least 397 yards and his 2nd year of at least 5 TDs. He has enough tape out there to get drafted as early as the fourth round (My projection is 5th round).

With Boutte and Jenkins gone, that gives Bech a starting role with BTJ and Nabors. Hilton will be the fourth when we go 4 wide.

Everybody except for John Emery should be back at RB.

OL will bring back every starter on the line. I expect the run game to be big time next year.

QB will be Howard as I think Daniels goes to the draft, and Howard will show himself to be just better than Nuss.

Returning starters IMO

1WR
1RB
1TE
5OL
2DL (if you consider Wingo and Maason Smith as starters)
1LB
1CB
1S

So about 13 starters. The fact is guys like we know what we have in Bech so you can say 14. We know what we have in Perkins, so you could say 15. We know what we have in Goodwin at RB so you could say 16. We know what we have in Saivion Jones, so you could say 17.

At the very least we'll have 17 kids ready to go with several other guys chipping in depth.

Garner is playing his way into the top 3 rounds. He's gone.

You also likely lose Ward and almost certainly lose Roy and Jenkins.

You most likely have to replace:

Boutte
Jenkins
Gaye
BJ
Roy
Baskerville
JBC
Richardson
Garner
Ward
Foucha

The offense should be MUCH better, but the defense will have to find a way to fill holes, especially in the secondary.

Starters in 23 (imo)

QB - Howard
RB - Emery
WR - Nabors/Hilton
WR - Bech/Brown (Fr)
WR - Thomas/Sampson (Fr)
TE - Taylor
LT - Campbell
LG - Frazier
C - West
RG - Hill
RT - Jones

Edge - Jones/Little
DT - Smith
DT - Wingo
DE - Wiggins

LB - Tolan/Weeks
LB - Perkins
LB - Penn

CB - McGeeh/Welch/Jones
S - Brooks
S - Davis
N - Ryan
CB - Banks

Going to need to find some top of the line transfers in the secondary and LB and some of those stud freshman to step up at DL.

Is it a given that Ojulari is declaring? That’d be awesome if he came back for his Sr season

Btj needs many more snaps.

He is better than jaray and i love jaray.

If they can convince ward and garner to come back that would be big.

Roy is going to go pro.

Agree about garner. Easily the best corner on the team.

And ward and jenkins are gone. Roy too. I don't see brooks stucking around either.

Defense is going to have to do the same thing as this past year. Hit the portal hard to field a defense.

That defensive lineup is scary, and not in a good way.

Corner is non existent. The entire defense would be young and inexperienced.

I'd be a lot of money they will hit the portal the same way they hit it this yr.

I’m curious if they can get the fringe guys back. Because of covid a lot of them have already been in school 1 year longer than they probably wanted

Not really worried about any player on offense. But in the secondaryc I think garner & Ward are gone. And a few of the other guys are graduating on.

I think you can get Brooks back. Not sure where he plays in the league. He’s a nice college player though.

After giving the program 5 years of his life, I am sure everyone will thank him and wish him well.

I think he is going to be one of those guys that ends up playing in the NFL for a good while because he seems to be an all-around solid player that doesn't have any known drama.
