Cooper was shown the door for less. LSU fans are being a bit early IMO, lets give it one more year but if LSU doesn't compete for the conference title next year it will be Miles last.

I agree, but I think he needs to win the west, or he's gone. If we win the West, then I know we could/would win the SEC. The East is going to be down next year.

While it has threated to slide into the crapper a couple of times, this thread has actually had some decent discussion in it. In light of that, I'll make a confession - I am very disaappointed in the 2009 signing class. While there are a few stand outs, the majority have been subpar.

Er, I mean the posters who registered on TD in 2009 of course. Not the football recruits.

If that's the case, he might as well get started with the packing. No way in hell is he going to win the west again. Not next year, or any other year in the future.

When did coaching incompetence at LSU, to the tune of over $4 million per year, become a "dead horse"?

More importantly, WHY should coaching incompetence at LSU ever be called a "dead horse"?

Leave it to a freaking lawyer to go trolling for clients on the op-ed page. Bet he runs for mayor of Dinky Springs next year.

What about another duplicate 9-3 and second behind Bama in the West with either a Bowl win or loss?

I would have no problem with that. The expectations following 2 National titles are completely uunrealistic

Since when is IMPROVING from 7-5 to 9-3 considered incompetence ?

Whats realistic? I realize the bar has been raised, but in fact, it HAS been raised. There is no way of getting around that fact.

Hell if I know. I think it is funny when people say if we don't compete for the conference title next year Miles needs to go.

We DID compete for the conference title this season.

We were very much in the hunt.

People say compete for and what they really mean is WIN. Expecting that every year is unrealistic.

It is simple next year - he wins and stays or loses and leaves. Why keep criticizing? Just bringing down LSU.

In reality, no. LSU finished with three losses in conference, losing to the only real good teams they faced. Losing to UF, Bama and Ole Miss in back to back years has made some sour.

Les Miles is coach of LSU at an unfortunate time, for him and he helped set the bar high. His success was part of the problem, for him. Getting elite pay is also a problem for him.

In the end, no matter what the casual fan thinks the decisions to retain or fire Miles will not come from this board, or the casual fan. It will come from the money folks and the school administration. So yes, the bar may be high but its not the fan that will do any coach in. Its the booster and admin.

IMO, when you have the lead in the 4th quarter, at the home of the eventual champ, in November, then you've competed. Had the team won that game, the rest of season could have been totally different. The loss at Bama pretty much killed the major goals for the year. Not giving them a pass for Ole Miss by any means though...
