LB position is the only position group that’s suspect

We are in need of “that” LB. We’ve always had solid LB’s and two more on the bench that could start anywhere else in the country, but this past year wasn’t the case. Who do y’all think will emerge this coming year?

I think we are fine at LB if we get a coach the kids can understand and learn from. The LBs were confused as hell this season (which made the whole defense suck)

I agree
Strong the juco kid needs to come in and have an impact
Sampah and White will have a year in program
I'm hoping Clark will round back into form with a new scheme and coaching staff and Baskerville is servicable
Maybe you can use one spot on a transfer as well

Clark and Baskerville coming back would be big.

Don’t let 2020 sour you on Clark.

I agree. But man, I have to admit, I'm itching to see what Sampah and White can do on the inside.

One of them might be the LB OP is looking for. Possibly both.

Speaking of that, everybody wondering and arguing (myself included) about a safeties coach... what's the guess as far as LB coach?

Yeah I think those 2 sophomores along with Webb will be ready to contribute.
Who knows if Devonta Lee will play LB or maybe TE but he should also contribute somewhere

I think we did. His name was Jacoby Stevens. Unfortunately, it appears all involved this past season were convinced he was a safety. Someone better alert the NFL. They appear to see him as a LB

That said, who knows what the current LB's can do in a different defense

Our safeties were't the best either. Although, we have the best safeties coming in now. I hope to Davis and Ryan on the field.

I don't think you can evaluate guys based on that shite show last season. I think both Baskerville and Clark are good linebackers. Strong is supposed to be plug and play; we'll see.

Here is the wild card, we have three highly recruited LBers entering their second year: Sampah, Webb and White. There is every chance that one, or more, of these will emerge. Look at JaMarr Chase as an example. In his second year he was hands down the best WR in college football. But in his first season he was almost invisible.

I've said this with respect to Mo Hampton, and I think it's true of Damone clark as well: I think there's a legitimate chance that he can be a very good player. He was rock solid in 2019 and I came into 2020 expecting him to be a star. Then Pelini happened. With a new DC I think there's a chance that we see the 2019 version of clark emerge again. Same goes for Hampton. Both guys would be enormous "additions" given that safety and LB are probably the biggest question marks on our roster. If those guys do get back to being the guys they showed flashes of being in 2019, I think our defense will be capital-E Elite. Hell, cordale flott can be thrown into that group as well. Imagine that defense...

You’re going to be pleased with white. However if Clark/Baskerville keep them at 2nd, then there is a reason and I’m fine with that.

I do remember in clarks second season, some poster here said, “don’t sleep on Clark” 2019 proved He was right and I think 2020 was a crash year for anyone on that defense.

Josh white got a lot of hype last offseason as a guy to watch out for and then he never got any legitimate playing time.

He’s a guy that could really help sure up our LB corps if he lives up to that hype.
