When and how the throws are made are more important than stats.
For example, last year no one was impressed with Burrow's completion percentage but if you dug deep his completion percentage was much better than the stat line. Burrow had a lot of drops and intentional throw aways last year that hurt his stat line.

Lawrence is a pass first guy just as Burrow is. The running usually comes only when receivers are covered.
Hurts passing game is all predicated on the run game.
Tim Tebow might still be the high school passing yards leader in the state of FL, but he's not playing on Sundays for a reason.

Really?
Put it to you this way...the passes Jalen missed against us in the first playoff game would not have been missed by Trevor.

quote:Have you seen the scheme? You know how many bubble screens Jalen has thrown that Ceedee has housed? Have you seen how many times guys are alone streaking down the field and Jalen underthrows them but there’s no one within 15 yards so it doesn’t matter? Have you seen how many 20 yard out routes that Trevor Lawrence has thrown on a frozen rope? How many skinny post he’s hit the receiver in the face mask with a defender on their back hip?
So the fact that JH has more yardage passing against better defenses is some context for you.
I’ve actually watched the games not just looked up the numbers. Believe what you want but if you honest to god think they’re comparable throwing the ball then this is my last response. You can’t be helped or convinced.
quote:Yes. It really is. That may be giving Jalen foo much credit tbh.

Be honest have you watched any of Their games? Any of them

Are we sure the defenses were better? I think the "Big12 plays defense now" narrative is getting busted.

And if by equal you mean he can throw the football forward, then yes... they are equal in ability to throw a football in the forward direction.

Did you fricking watch the LSU/OU game? The dude couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Hurts will most likely project as a rb in the NFL. If someone takes him as a qb, he will have to run the same offense he's running now to have success.

Hurts will make a good NFL practice squad QB for teams that face running QBs the week prior.

You think the LS defense running him down all night had nothing to do with that? That said, will LSU be able to get to TL?

No it didn't, he missed on wide open receivers when he wasn't under pressure, obviously you don't really "see" the game.
re: Lawrence Vs. HurtsPosted by des4271 on 1/2/20 at 10:04 am to winkchance
Obviously not every play but they will get to him some. I'm actually realistic, you should try it.

Trever Lawrence is clearly a better passer, but we shouldn’t overlook our defensive effort and success in stoping the Heisman runner up. Our defense has played four straight solid games, why can’t we at-least slow down Clemson. It’s not like we need to shut them down. LSU is likely to score at-least 30.

Better passer
Better surrounding players
Less of a runner
The margin between them as passers is about as big as the margin between them as runners.
Lawrence had a great game running the ball but he isn’t all of a sudden game Newton.
He’s an athletic quarterback but not an athlete.

People will beat you up about this, but Lawrence has struggled this year with accuracy and consistency, and has looked more like Jalen. Lawrence has shown he CAN throw the ball with more accuracy than Jalen and CAN push the ball downfield and CAN manipulate safeties better, but just hasn't been great this year against decent competition.
TL has definitely been better as a passer, but this year, not by as much as people are giving him credit for.
If he's sharp like last year's championship game, we will see what the hype is about and LSU will be in for a dog fight. If he passes like he did against Ohio State or like he did in some of the regular season games this year he's been underwhelming in, LSU will win by a lot!

So you think both QBs faced the same talent level of defenses throughout the year, since you watched all of their games?

Sure wish we had the advantage of having our DBs going against 3 all American caliber receivers. Just think how beneficial that would be if they were catching passes from the most accurate college qb to date (one of those Heisman trophy like winners) Man crazy to think how prepared we would be for this upcoming game against the Lord's team.
