Last Saturday "Shoe on the other Foot" Moment
Posted by lsufball19 on 11/29/22 at 3:47 pm11
Saturday had a lot of similarities to 1998.
While one game occurred the last game in the season and the other occurred in late October, a lot of similarities can be drawn from our matchup with 1998 SEC West Champion MS State.
LSU started the 1998 season #7, and rose as high as #6 after a 3-0 start. Then...came three straight losses and a defense that couldn't stop anyone. Enter a MS State team who was leading the West and went on to win the West. We won that game 41-6.
State would finish the 1998 regular season with 3 losses, one to OOC Oklahoma State and 2 conference losses to 4-7, 2-6 LSU and Tim Couch led Kentucky. They went on to face an undefeated and #1 Tennessee team in the SECCG
This year, Texas A&M started the season #6, couldn't score on anyone, and found themselves in last place and the laughing stock of the conference. They obviously went on to beat SEC West Champion LSU by 2 touchdowns.
LSU, this season, finished the season with 3 losses, one to OOC FSU and to 5-7, 2-6 Texas A&M, and 10-2 Tennessee. We still won the west and now will face undefeated and #1 UGA in the SECCG.
State found themselves leading #1 Tennessee 14-10 late in the 4th quarter before Tennessee threw a long TD pass, proceeded by a State fumble and another TD pass the very next play to ice the game and earn Tennessee a spot in the BCS Title Game.
