Lack of Left Handed Pitching
LSU had 20 pitchers on staff this season. One, Easton McMurray was left handed. Another sore arm kept him off the field. Therefore we pitched only right handed pitchers the entire season! Incredible! How many times might a left handed pitcher made a difference? Even at that, LSU was two games from making it to the CWS!

As I am watching other teams in the post season including Omaha, left handers give a team options that can make a difference especially against teams with a large number of left handed hitters.

I think it is inexcusable that LSU coaches have failed so miserably in recruiting lefty pitchers. Every team in the CWS has top talent left handed pitchers.

While I agree that sore arms were a major factor hurting LSU's success this year, I can't believe that a lack of lefties didn't hurt as well!

Am I off base? What does everyone think?

I have posted this at least 15 times

At the beginning of the season this was brought up on Tiger Zone, Skips radio show.
He said you go out & recruit the best, if they are all lefties or all righties it doesn’t matter, you recruit the best.
You don’t sacrifice quality for matchups.

He said that’s how he recruited & he was glad to see CPM & Cain recruiting the same way.

Again, this was at the very beginning of the season.

Why don’t you save time and just check the other 15 or 20 threads which discussed this same topic over this entire season?

Did you think you are unique in noticing our lack of left handed pitchers?

Can’t tell me there wasn’t a lefty better than all the righties we recruited

I’m not a recruiter so I don’t know

I’m just posting what Skip said on his radio show

Not saying I agree or disagree, again, just posting what Skip said very early on in the season.

We were missing one player in the super regional that played opening weekend. How did sore arms keep us from being able to swing the bats?

Here’s a fresh topic. Glad you brought it up. No one is talking about this. Great job.

We out hit FSU in both super regional games. It was the 14 walks we issued, four of which either scored or advanced a runner into scoring position who subsequently scored, which cost us the series.

That’s not how it works. Multiple moments can decide a game. Missing second. Picked off at 3B. Inability to catch a fastball. Lack of timely hits. Walks. Throwing 7 fastballs in a row to a hitter who keeps fouling them off.

Seriously though, most here agree with you. The topic has been beaten to death and then some on here though.

Arm injury / soreness didn’t cost LSU a NC
No LHP didn’t cost LSU a NC
Base running errors didn’t cost LSU a NC
Catching / inability to stop steals didn’t cost LSU a NC
Lack of productive at bats didn’t cost LSU a NC
Walking batters didn’t cost LSU a NC

All of these things combined cost LSU all season long

One thing I noticed is AU has several sophomores that start & all hit between .250 & .290.

With all the players moving on next year LSU needs rising sophomores Bianco, Willis, Dugas, & DiGiacomo to step up & contribute in 2020.

Total screw up not to have 4/5 lefty’s on every roster. Absolutely no excuse.

Bullfrickin shite.I realize you defend PM at all cost but this is flat out frickin retarded.Skip always had lefty’s on his staff and for Maineri to say himself he couldn’t find any is ridiculous.

Annoying "sabermetricians" will argue this till they're blue in the face.

I will say, though, that having QUALITY lefties to face left hand dominated lineups is highly important. Just look at how LSU largely struggled against lefties this year. It does matter. Just not to the extreme that sabermetricians are convinced it does.

And yet he never fielded a roster that had zero left-handlers.

Great summary! I agree with every statement! How LSU made it as far as they did is amazing! There is a lot of room for improvement!
