There are some LSU fans that have lingering doubts about coach O, but 100 percent of the fan base had zero doubts about Aranda and LSU's 2017 Defense before the State game. Defense remains a shock, all the sources on TD failed to pick up on this, will be interesting to see how the boy genius Aranda recovers his credibility. Feel certain he will eventually.

Young in secondary and not a lot of depth up front. All these young guys will get better under the Dave. Just need to avoid further attrition/injuries.

White, beckwith, and Adams are all top 10 on overall ROY watch list. Riley is starting in Atl, Godchaux is getting 50% of reps next to Suh in Miami. Bower made a 53 man, Neal is practice squad

That's a lot of not only talented but well prepared football players. I don't know if LSU has personnel 10 months away from that caliber of football on this defense.

Experience is important, talent is important, but if you don't have a solid core of experienced talent you are rebuilding not reloading trying to replace that many NFL ready players

Ex:
Battle is solid and our most polished safety but he is not Adams. The freshman that may have a high first round ceiling are no where near ready to play at JR year Jamal Adams level.

It's like this in many spots imo. That's why regardless being able to point to a x # of upperclassmen on the roster you can still be a young team.

Give me a freaking break? Does Alabama have freshman starting all over the place year in and year out nope. Stands has no dl depth and freshman all over the secondary. This board is full of arse clowns.

But it's all Coach O being a bafffon right. Blame Coach O got offensive woes but the D is just as shockingly average right now.

But rantards would take Aranda as head coach right now.

All the years Miles coached at LSU there was never this excuse, never an excuse for Saban either at Alabama. How can that be? Is this just a strange year?

An offense would help tremendously

The defense has been fine considering the dline is so thin

If you didnt have questions about the defense, then you're lying to yourself. Nearly everyone complained about the talent. Starts with Gilmore and Lacouture being bad, or average at best up front. Lb's were everyones worry with depth and experience. Even the secondary was questioned. Kt getting a bad rap, looks to be rightfully so. DJ getting pumped up, for god knows what reason? John Battles the only consistent one back there and he was thought to be a liability. Whats the surprise? Everyone talked about this. Oh, and Arden Key, he shouldnt be on the field right now, hes the weakest link.

I could not disagree more. Thin defensive line or not, there have been busted assignments all over the field at every level. The penalties that have extended drives have been unacceptable, as well and have nothing to do with defensive line depth.

There are positives, but I wouldn't call it anywhere near fine. Jackson, White and Greedy have been outstanding. Lawrence has been outstanding when he's been healthy.

I think they have plenty of talent to right the ship as they gain experience. But they definitely need to pick it up for us to win many SEC games.

I've been appalled at the frequency of missed tackles since the first game. It's become the new normal for LSU football

Too many players too slow to grasp defensive assignments, breakdowns have been everywhere. It's like who's been coaching them? Yes, LSU played a lot of young players this year, whose fault is that, did coaches not recruit correctly two years before?

Why is this a surprise? we are starting Gilmore and LaCouture on the Dline. If you dont have studs at the Dline position you are behind the eight ball especially in the SEC. Key has been invisible. Our Lb's other than white are out of position and miss tackles. Toliver still never turns his head and jackson still gets burned regularly. So yeah id say its not really a surprise considering most of the issues are with the upperclassman under performing.

LSU lacks experience and depth on defense. And it shows. Doesn't explain why this occurred in 2017 and not other years. I forgot about 3rd and Chavis, his handprints on this

Agreed, type of group that will get better as the season progresses....barring any injuries. Losing five guys, who now start or play significant snaps, in the NFL was huge. Two, Godchaux and Adams, could still be with this team...

Agreed. Glad I'm getting some traction on this. Give O and Canada time to develop the offense while Aranda rebuilds a very young and depleted defense. With a few quality JUCO players, we could be very good next year.

Too early to toss out the trio of O, Canada, and Aranda. I was pointing out personnel issues on the defense early...

Chaisson starting
Looked bigger than Key as a freshman but didn't play with the same confidence and speed. Looked hesitant out there. Hopefully he's more than just a muscled up, non-aggressive player.

True Freshman Starting
Is this class loaded or is our talent taking a dive?
Vincent - Nickel Back
Delpit - Safety
Chaisson - Buck/D-end

Aranda is still a great DC. what he's missing right now, due to injuries, is a top flight DL. if Lawrence and Alexander get healthy and the huge number of freshmen he has to depend on improve with experience this defense will improve dramatically. we can't win without 'em.

we lost our "key" players from last years team, including arden key (if he doesn't recover his form) and even with a lot of talent it takes time for them to play at a high level.
