Then the only choice left is the new north end zone upper deck for students.

So the students should be given carte blanche to whatever they like because they University is there bc of them?

So by that standard the government should give us carte blanche to do what we want, bc the government is there bc of us, correct?

I cite such a silly example because the students should be held responsible for their actions. Does the University not hold them responsible on an academic level if they don't perform up to certain standards?

I'm assuming you are a student. I'm not saying this as an attack on you and I don't think not allowing students into the game is a good idea at all. However, if students get so butthurt because the University doesn't allow them to go to a few games because thier actions are detrimental to the reputation of the University, that they decide not to ever be a fan again, then your generation is truly lost and they weren't fans in the first place.

No, I am not a student. I am someone who long ago experienced the transformative power of Tiger Stadium. I came to LSU from out of state. I was absolutely transfixed by Tiger Stadium and the spectacle of the rituals that took place within the bowl, even though the team was atrocious during my freshman year. Some of my best memories of college are attending games with my best friends, my dates, the woman who became my wife. Those dazzling nights are the reason that I have season tickets, fly thousands of miles for the games, spend tens of thousands of dollars on the program. My student days are when my passion for LSU blossomed.

Naturally, if you deprive students of the magical experience of attending games, if you divorce them from the core of LSU football itself, if you relegate them to being distant TV viewers, they will simply have less affection and passion for the program. It would not be a vindictive choice on their part, just a unavoidable consequence of a vastly different (and inferior) college experience.

Its hilarious to hear prepubescent jackasses try and justify acting like an a-hole.

Hey Student section... You know... it is OK for students (or anyone else) to NOT act like an a-hole. Try it sometime.

I tend to agree with this. At the very least, I'll endeavor to ensure it doesn't happen on my watch. I suspect many alums would feel the same way.

I sit in the student section every game and have for the last two years (and before that my family has season tickets on the lower bowl). I would say under 50% say "suck that tiger dick".

I will say that 90% say "kick there arse".

People are going overboard right now saying all the students are ruining the games and blah blah. Notice it's not the students complaining right now anyway. I'd say 35-40% of which 7-80% are freshman.

The administration can stop it...they have something the students want: access to the game. If the administration really wanted to stop it, they should start a campaign letting students know if it continues they will be barred from attending a game (say McNeese or ULM) and their tickets will be sold to the general public.

Or sell the general publics tickets to the students and young people of Louisiana. That stadium will never have been louder. The fans that don't sit in the student section are boring and quiet. I was depressed when I sat in the regular seating for Ms St. At no point did anyone around me cheer. I'd rather sit around a bunch of people cursing like crazy but making noise than the people acting like they are in a library. It's the non students who are bringing down TS.

I also suspect more Alums are embarrassed by the decorum (or lack thereof) with some of our current students, and would like to see it reeled in by TAF and the Admin.

this is the dumbest fricking debate we've had on here.

im 26 and haven't sat in the student section in some years. but that was the best time of my life, and would give up my tickets to sit there now.

i sit in section 100 and listen to people bitch about me standing up. then i sit with my dad in the stadium club section and listen to people bitch about me standing up. these are the same people bitching about kids saying "you suck" or "a-hole". fricking ridiculous.

the student section is the lifeline to that stadium. we wouldn't make a third of the noise without that section.

keep banning songs, who gives a frick. they will make other ones, and the students will make something derogatory of it. big fricking deal, get over it, or GTF out of the stadium. there are hot drunk southern football fans in there. what do yall expect?

most of you are just bitching to bitch, which is normal around here.

and the whole "alums are embarrassed bit", please spare us that bullshite.

also the "lsu will lose TV revenue", also please spare us that bullshite.

lastly i just want Tiger Rag back

I'm a student and even I think its pretty stupid. The little sayings in the songs are immature and are slowly tearing down the Tiger tradition because a few people don't know what to do w/ a little freedom from mommy and daddy.

This is true. It's ridiculous that they can't play songs that were played for years prior to their snotnose arrival. It's not funny.

What about the tradition of actually cheering? I only noticed one section is really holding that end up right now.

this is a pretty petty argument if you ask me. i understand that a lot of people dont like the chants but for the most part little will be done by arguing about it here. the students have long added cursing to the chants. and while some will say kick their arse is not as bad as "suck that tiger dick" (which i will definitely agree it isnt) its a progression started by a "tradition" of adding profanity. while some will say that the students are killing traditions, at the same time they are just continuing a tradition. its just a snowball effect. i am a 5th year senior that sits in the student section every week. i only know from this board that people are saying suck that tiger dick or whatever. i havent heard it. if i had to guess it would be frat-area centralized, but i really dont know. watching the replay i tried to listen for it and it was barely audible if you listened for it, so while im not against preventing it from spreading, i think its not as bad (at this point) as people are making it out to be. i do think it is pretty stupid though and hope that it doesnt catch on. i also think that the main reason that this chant is around is some silly form of revenge for taking away oweo. at the least its proof that simply banning one song will rid the section of profanity. its futile. i dont have a true solution to the problem, as i would suggest trying to modify chants, but that has already failed (oweo tigers).

im not going to sit on a pedestal though, i still do swear at games. considerably less than i used to but im not going to act like im above that because im not. i know its silly and petty, but i just frankly dont give a damn. when im at the game i get REALLY into it. i boo bad calls. probably throw in a "frick YOU REF" i am well aware that it has no real effect on the game its just how i get into it. i have sat away from the student section a few times since i started and while it may take a first down or two for me to adjust, i stop saying "kick their arse" and things of the sort because there usually are kids around and i will at least attempt to restrain myself

another note, for the people who may be unware, the reason the oweo chant was banned was not truly for the "you suck" as was done starting soon after its inception, it was because in 07 vs the south carolina GAME COCKS the chant was oweo you suck cocks. at that point the song got the banhammer.

ahh... ive wasted too much time on this rant

I was in the band for 4 years and am now a grad student who sits in the student section and it always amazes me how the students think that adding on all these profane lyrics to songs is in some way cool. And for the people that argue "well they're drunk college students, what do you expect?!" Well yes, I know people, drunk or not, will use profanity to express how they feel about what is going on with the game. But there IS a difference between that and organized "chants" that are going on while the band plays a song. The band is there for entertainment and to pep up the crowd...not give immature students a reason to show off and pretend how cool they are that they're cursing.

Really though, what goal gets accomplished when the students add profane lyrics to songs? Nothing positive that I can think of. It gets songs banned and makes the alumni embarassed about our student section.

Seriously dudes, they are drunk college kids at a football game. Get over it.

There were JUST AS MANY drunk students at football games way back in the Jurassic Period when I was at LSU, but they didn't add stupid shite to LSU songs and get them banned......

There were less tree hugging sensitive liberals back then. But I do agree the chants are stupid.
