Kim Mulkey would build a championship program here

She will build a championship program the right way. She will fill the arena. And bring revenue to pay for whatever she demands and for her program. If she is able to accomplish what she has at Baylor she will build a new stadium at her retire it will be known as the Maravich-Mulkey arena. Hire this women. It would be a step in the right direction for several obvious reasons.

Such a loser mentality.
WBB isn’t something we can just do away with. I’d rather LSU spend 7 figures on a proven winner and see LSU nationally relevant than spend 6 figures to lose.

As a fan of all LSU sports I would love to see her at LSU but she’s 58 years old, has been at Baylor for a long time. I would be surprised if she left Baylor.

I’ll admit I don’t know jack about women’s basketball. But when I was growing up I seem to remember LSU women’s games being popular under pokey. Maybe I’m recalling incorrectly, but I feel like it could generate a little money.

I believe women's BBall is very similar to baseball, could be wrong, but there's basically very very few programs who turn any profit, then basically 98-99% lose money.
That being said, Mulkey could build a multiple national title winner here and the program would still absolutely lose money if we're paying her in the mid 2 mil range per year. The fact of the matter is this school can barely support a winning men's program, there should be no expectation we would suddenly support in mass a winning women's program.

Why does it matter to you if the program makes money? We have a whole list of programs that lose money. At least WBB has a strong national TV presence, especially the tournament.

The positive effect someone like Kim Mulkey would have on the public perception of your athletic program far exceeds her salary.
Let me tell you something. Our athletic department, despite a 2019 football season for the ages, has flatlined when it comes to its overall image.
For starters, Covid has sucked all the fan experience out of everything for more than a year now.
The football team followed 2019 with a turd in the punch bowl for 2020. They gave a new meaning to the term “championship hangover.” I understand why/how. But that happened. The football world laughed their arse off at us last year.
Baseball is mired in mediocrity. Again.
Men’s Basketball, like it or not, can’t even play a tournament game without ESPN telling recruits not to come here. That literally happened.
No one has been to a women’s basketball game for close to a decade. This is a program that was for a brief period a national power that made multiple final fours and actually drew great crowds. That used to happen here. Not anymore.
Then there’s the Title IX stuff that has reporters, local and national, keeping our program in the headlines for the wrong reasons. They won’t let go, by the way. They get too much personal reward from a story that never ends.
The athletic department needs something big and good to happen sooner rather than later to help turn its image around. It will cost a lot of money, but we all need to understand that LSU’s athletic brand is garbage right now. Straight garbage.

Joe Dean limited the return by being unable to see potential.
I don’t think this is the same thing. Women’s basketball is a financial loser...with or without Mulkey.
If you decide to invest this much you are simply deciding that a winning program is worth the loss you are going to take.

I remember reading an article a few years back saying that only 3-5 women's basketball teams make a profit. All were less than $500K. And, most importantly, those numbers were very suspect because of accounting irregularities that shifted football revenues to women's basketball.

WBB loses 4 million a year??????? Women’s sports should receive less money, not more. Go hire a high school coach and be done with it.

Me2, but you gotta make her say no. Even if she came to LSU for 3 or 4 years, we’d be nationally relevant again. Her track record speaks for itself.

There was definitely more excitement than there is now and more people cared but they still only sold out two games a year. The Pack the PMAC game and whenever they played Tennessee. That was it.
