on college football live they were doing a show on Herm Edwards - Mawae was giving short interviews and appeared to be on staff. makes sense - there is the NY Jets connection.

anyone know what his official position is?

so far I like Kregg but I would love to have Mawae on staff. I know - one of our own. Still....

This board has been begging to hire Mawae for a decade.

Good for him, though. Maybe he’ll work his way back home and be on LSU’s staff one day.

i remembered he said interviewed for the Oline job when that hired Grimes. I think no one is against him being a coach here, people just want him to go cut his teeth other places first to see if he can actually do the job.

People keep saying that, and NFL teams hire former players to be position coaches at that level.

Win 0 coaching experience.

Also fun former LSU pkayer in NFL now: TV McCarthy is an offensive assistant on the 49ers. That’s a great place to cut your teeth. Kyle Shannahan is good.

And yes I’m glad he’s getting an opportunity. I hope we see him on our side one day.

The NFL is all football. Coaches usually need some experience recruiting before going to a big time college. Or at least show they are willing to do all the traveling that goes along with recruiting.

ok so tell me your reasons why you would hire him. Tell me the things you see in him that would make him a good coach.

They haven't played a game yet. What do you like about Cregg? (Cregg with a C, not a K)

Charismatic. Respected. Was the NFLPA rep for years.

Played the most cerebral position on the OL for a long time at a high level. So he is super knowledable.

He can sell his NFL experience and LSU experience to the kids.

I think He would be a great recruit not only because of his NFL prestige but the fact that he genuinely loves LSU and that will come across. I think that’s one of the reasons why Ensminger has been so successful recruiting despite being the whitest looking old man ever. He loves LSU he loves Louisiana and he can sell that.

mawae has a great attitude about the Oline.

i'll go out on a limb here and say that based on his NFL career, he didn't achieve based on just physical ability and attitude - he understood the game and technique.

will that translate to coaching? fair question.

Kregg, you have to love his resume. he hasn't done anything yet since we haven't played, so I am basically just neutral.

It is funny all the people bitching about how Hire O was a mistake because of his coaching experience yet they want to hire Mawae with no experience.

I dont know.

But like I said, people get Hires with no experience. Especially high end players.

You’re really dumb. It’s not his lack of experience. He has experience as a HC. It’s just that he was fricking terrible. He had a terrible experience as a head coach. That’s why people bitch. I’d rather NO experience than bad experience.

No, that’s fine.

You’re dumb because you think people are saying O was a mistake because he lacked experience. People are saying he was a mistake because he had experience but mostly bad experience.
