As soon as he realized he had fricked up and wasn’t going to win a championship this year Kelly wanted to get fired so he could leave the South with tens of millions of dollars and retire. I don’t buy the “his ego was driving him” BS…he’s been checked out and coasting for much of his time here by all accounts.
I think he was probably burned out before he ever set foot on LSU‘s campus.
The job at Notre Dame requires an intense amount of national recruiting, which means getting on a plane constantly and flying all over the country.
I think he believed that if he hired good assistants and ran the program like a CEO, he could have continued the success in his career with less work and less drain on himself personally. What he discovered was the opposite. Competing in the SEC is a 24-7-365 proposition for a head coach and I just don’t think he had it in him anymore.
when you consider, he is a 30+ year head coach who is accustomed to recruiting young men and developing them for four years, in this new world you have to re-recruit your own players. Kelly is obviously not a people person and that was a tall order for him to maintain roster continuity. So his assistant coaches were everything. And he made some really bad choices.

Well he did spend $1 million out of his own pocket for roster upgrades
I think it was championship or bust this year and he did this because he wanted a championship Asap.
I think he blew up after FL because then (or around then) he realized it wasn’t going to happen because of the o-line and OC he had, and he vented his frustration on Cauble for asking a question he already knew the answer to but was struggling to accept.
After that he coasted and was happy to be relieved of his duties and bail with huge money. I don’t believe he wanted to spend another 2-3 years in BR trying to rebuild up until he was almost 70.

Proof if that is the meeting that supposedly went south. The plan was for him to shite can Sloan, then he got another season to fix it with a new OC but whether the rumor of Woodward talking at another coaches firing or not are true something didnt happen like planned. So the donors made a knee jerk reaction and fired him.
This never happened. Meeting was brief. It was always to fire Kelly. Only reason the issue drug on during the day was the buyout.
I think BK thought he would have an opportunity to fix things in the off-season. I don’t think he’d ever imagine LSU would pull the plug 3 1/2 years in.

Scott Woodward was a political operative, he knows how to leak a narrative to the media and spin a story
we saw that on sunday

He thought he could just set it to cruise control like he did at ND and win 10 games every year without giving great effort. Only difference is, the schedule that ND plays has 3 good teams on it and the rest are average to bad teams. Every coach in the SEC works their arse off in recruiting, fund raising, and game prep. He chose not to by all reports and that’s why we are currently a mid pack team on this league instead of at the top.

He probably wanted to at this point. The guy put up a million dollars of his own money and his season was over before Halloween.

Fix what things? He’s been here 4 years. They should have been fixed a long time ago. If he thought he was just going to tip toe his way around for 5-6 years with no repercussions for average results, he’s dumber than a lot of y’all think. His salary and the investment into this roster calls for results and he either couldn’t or wouldn’t provide them.

A Boston New Englander had no business being head coach at LSU.
This is horse shite and I hate this talking point. Kelly didnt work out here, but not because hes from New England. You dont have to be a cajun caricature or even be from the south at all to succeed here. All you gotta do is be a good coach and everything will work out.

We all knew he wasn’t going to make it past A&M with a loss, including Kelly.
That’s simply not true.
Correct
No one inside the program and especially outside the program "knew" BK would be fired if he lost to A&M. I do think most felt he would lose to Bama and OK, beat ARK and WK and get into a crappy bowl.
He would then be forced to fire a couple on staff and given another year to get back on track.
Also with his alpha ego and not really understanding the demands of the SEC and the LSU fanbase, he probably felt he was untouchable for a couple more years.

Not exactly planned, but just maybe in the back of his mind he was ready to leave. There’s no other explanation as to why you leave in a QB that’s going to potentially cost you your job.

Yeah he always seemed way too comfortable because of his massive buyout and probably thought lsu didn’t have the stomach to pull the trigger. It was probably a shock to him.

You didn’t know this. Neither did most other people.
The people who made the decision likely didn’t think this before the game.

I don’t think he cared he’s probably relieved right now

I don’t think he did until he saw that stadium at the end of the game. I’m not sure we woulda been if not for that. I think the decision was made after Woody was contacted by money folks the whole fourth quarter

thought by coming to LSU, that the money spent on players would allow him to be distant and aloof.
Everyone saying he was distant, never really there, playing golf, vacationing...Is that real? Not saying you're wrong, but I'm just hearing about this since the firing. Never saw anything during the summer or anything about him not being around. Just curious.

You do have to have testicular fortitude, and New England liberals don't know what that is.
