Few fans expected a national title from Saban, Miles or Orgeron after their first year coaching at LSU. We are left to wonder how many more Saban would have won had he stayed. And for a decade Miles dominated every college football program not named Alabama. Though Orgeron, had the least head coaching ability, he still managed to give LSU the greatest college football season ever.

Kelly has done something none of them could achieve within their first year, he has everyone confident in his coaching skills to have LSU winning titles. After the first year of Saban, Miles and Orgeron at LSU, most LSU fans would have still quickly traded them for a handful of other high profile coaches.

After Kelly’s first year at LSU, I can’t honestly think of one coach I would trade him for. As with other LSU fans including myself that was not the case at all when Kelly was first hired. Most of us had some doubts. Kelly has ascended to the top faster, winning over fans and players at a pace most of us would not have predicted. Much respect to Coach Kelly for being the head coach LSU always deserved.

It’s a surprise how quickly the turnaround is happening, but it’s not shocking Kelly is having success at LSU.

But what we all want to know is are you going to forego the draft and remain one more season posting on TD?

Only thing I wanna see is a "killer" mentality when we have superior talent.

Bill Arnsparger got LSU to the top of the SEC quickly and with much less to build from.

This is no disrespect to CBK, but your coaching history in this thread is incredibly short.

I remember the Bill Arnsparger years, and attended the Suger Bowl to watch Nebraska embarrass my LSU Tigers and Arnsparger. Took a lot of crap from many Nebraska fans before during and after that game. I Never had the confidence in him that I have in Kelly winning a national title.

LSU hadn’t won a title in 25 years before Arnsbarger, of course you weren’t confident he’d get there.

But, in three seasons he lost only 3 conference games.

He’s the OG white whale, baw.

If he wants a Natty next year, then he has to unlock JD5’s arm though

He hasn’t won over anything. If he loses to FSU to start next year he will be decidedly unpopular. He is as good as his last season or game. So far so good, though.

Remember the last Notre Dame coach’s first season back in the SEC… Speaks to the character of each of these men

completely different times man. alot has changed in 4 decades.

bill was a great defensive mind yet hardly blitzed.
we did not have the strength and conditioning programs in those days we have now. nor the facilities. That is why those huge strong corn fed nebraska baws whipped our arse those 2 sugar bowls 84 and 86. stronger and bigger.

Try 16 years. 1970 to 1986.

It’s very easy to go from O o Kelly…Think fans would feel the same way if Kelly replaced Saban last year?

I don't agree with that but it was a different times back then without the two edged sword of the portal. And the team he took over was not as bad as you may remember. In 1982 under Stoval the tigers were second in the SEC at 8-3-1. In 1983 under Stoval, 4-7 with 4 losses by one score and 4 wins by 2 scores or more. In 1984 under Arnsparger they were 8-3-1 with 4 wins by one score, again second in the SEC.

Arnsparger inherited some good player including a junior starting QB and a pair of very good starting running backs.

Returning players of note:

Jeff Wickersham
Dalton Hilliard
Garry James
Roland Barbay
Michael Brooks

But he did bring in some fantastic players

Sammy Martin
Brian Kinchen
Nacho Albergamo
Eric Andolsek
Rogie Magee
Wendell Davis

Arnsbarger inherited a nucleus of some players, but absolutely no recent tradition of winning.

The point was less about who did more and more about the “history” of LSU coaches only including the most recent three.

Because Kelly is obviously a professional businessman. He is direct and no-nonsense. I think people trust him.

A little unfair, don't you think? Hypothetically, if Saban retired here and was replaced by BK, I'd say that was about as good of a replacement as you could possibly hope for.
