Read this article, remove your political and emotional prejudices and think about what this author says, if I was a betting person, no sports for at least 1 and possibly 2 years just due to the logistics involved.

A vaccine is the only way we get to have sports back this year
And even then, it'll take a few months to mass produce and distribute
All because of a fricking bat.

I don’t think it was a bat. I think There was an accident in a Chinese lab and the virus got released.

Alarmist nonsense, as was the article. I would bet large sums of money on professional sports resuming less than a year from now.

Yet we are hearing that the virus in New York city has European origins.
It is indeed a small world

The notion that sports can’t continue because every single athlete would need to be in a vacuum from the start of the season to the end of the season (which is impossible) is ridiculous and defies logic. There has to be a happy medium between complete lockdown and gatherings of 100,000 people as more and more people are immune from the disease.
We’ve got gatherings of 100 or more going on in every grocery store, every day, but it’s “medically irresponsible” to have a fricking 70-man football game with no fans in attendance? Get real. That article is ridiculous and moves the goalposts to an intentionally unattainable place.
I’ll agree that sporting events with no fans in attendance are a bad idea when grocery stores and gas stations stop allowing herds of people in on a daily basis. The medical double standard and politicization of this disease is disgusting.

Without any sports to cover the best way to get clicks will be articles like this “no sports for two years” and “sports will be back soon”.
Instead of MJ v Lebron the new hot take battlefield will be to have sports or not.
Edit: just finished reading it. That article is written as it they are trying to play games next week. It completely ignores that life will be somewhat normalized in coming months and that athletes do live in the real world.

Agree, SI is trying to get people to read their articles. We will figure something out so sports can be played in some way.

"did you attend sporting events after the lockdown was lifted AND got infected with the virus? if so.....call the lawfirm of xxxxxxxx. you can be entitled to compensation".
this is what our country has come to.
i don't look for the sporting events to start anytime soon.

Not to mention the airports are still open. Is this a serious thing or not? If so, how are we allowing people to gather at airports and congregate on airplanes and spread themselves all over the country?

Have a hunch it wasn't an accident. Too many tries to destroy our economy and Trump to not think China wouldn't try to do this till they get someone like their puppet in the white house. Not having sports in this country for that long could make people here very hard to deal with.

I spoke with a TAF employee and he said one big problem is the travel involved in SEC sports. Hotels, flights, restaurants, etc. LSU could play a game of fball or basketball or baseball versus Tulane with minimal travel involved. That's not true for LSU v Florida or LSU v UK. How about Mizzou v UF or Aggies vs Carolina?
He said the schools WANT to play for many reasons including $$$. The travel in a time of pandemic could be the killing detail.

No we’re not. They are saying that the strains in New York came from Europe. They originated in Wuhan.
Also, scientists are fairly sure it came from a lab in Wuhan, not from animal to human transmission.

There is growing concern that a vaccine mat 18 months away.
