Later that year wife and I were vacationing in Asheville at the Grove Park Inn. I had on my LSU colors and encountered an elderly Tennessee with a puke orange jacket.

He was magnanimous and complimented me on the Tiger victory. He added however that our win costs the Vols a shot at the national championship. I, being somewhat magnanimous myself, offered that 2001 was merely payback for 1959.

We shook hands and went our separate ways.

Great win after losing earlier in the year at Neyland - 26-18. LSU was thisclose to catching a Hail Mary in that game.

I had to work that night on a system go live. Never worked on a Saturday night but it just turned out to be the case that night.

Had to watch on a grainy over the air tv in my office. When it looked like we were actually going to make it interesting I turned it off. Got home around midnight and watched the whole thing on the VCR.

Glorious.

You young whippersnappers can't appreciate the excitement of winning an SEC title after a 13 year drought, which seemed like an eternity.

Put last week behind you. Winning an SEC title is a big deal. LFG.

Greatest game! Tiger Land was LIT that night. Students were waiting in line for Sugar Bowl tickets at 2am.

Remember all the orange roses their fans were carrying around before the game. There was an UT info booth about Rose Bowl trip packages outside the stadium. It was gone when we went looking for it after the game.

I was at that game and it was 75% orange in that stadium. Pretty sure Tenn had John Henderson on the DL. That was top 5 greatest LSU game I’ve been too
