Jackson state has a 252 RPI southern is 263 Tulane is 90!
For heavens sake Newman could have handled this!

So you'd be all for Eades or Glenn not pitching at all this week? What if we win the Super in 2 games? They would go into Omaha having not pitched in 3 weeks.

I can see the argument for pitching someone like Newman on Friday....if by some chance LSU does NOT win on Saturday, it would be nice to have Eades and Glenn both ready to help you survive the losers bracket. If you go 3-0 its not an issue...

This is the correct point.

Glenn has had rest. Remember the final game of the South Carolina series that McCune started ( ). Glenn had 11 days between starts (Sunday at Alabama to the Florida opener).

If by some chance LSU does not win on Saturday.....we will handle business like we did vs the #1 team in the nation last Sunday, only it will be vs a much inferior opponent.

I really think that the decision is about ULL, though. Glenn held ULL to 3 hits and zero runs in 7 innings earlier in the year. Why wouldn't you want him to face the Cajuns again?

because Nola would probably pitch better against them.

Nola can't beat ULL twice this weekend. Assuming Nola wins on Saturday, you need either Eades or Glenn to win on Sunday (presumably against ULL). Baseball is a weird game, and sometimes pitchers do better or worse against teams for reasons that aren't obvious. Glenn is a proven winner against ULL. That's why we are saving Glenn for Sunday and throwing Eades on Friday.

It's likely we play ULL twice in the regional. Nola and Glenn will likely both pitch against them

Disagree. Glenn is the Sunday guy right now because there is more confidence in him than there is in Eades.

Just got home, am I too late to join the discussion? I only read the first two pages of this thread.

I think it's funny that most of the fan base is pushing for Eades to get a rest but Mainieri keeps sending Eades back out there. We all got worried after last year's sluggish finish for Eades, and then Mainieri rests Nola but not Eades. For that reason, I wouldn't be opposed to pitching our fourth starter on Friday. We seriously should be able to score double digit runs on Friday. Even still, our 4th guys pitched very well last weekend against better teams. If Eades didn't pitch this weekend, it could be a blessing in disguise.

If you choose not to pitch the 4th starter, I like throwing Glenn in game 1. Glenn's left handed off speed should baffle the J State hitters, and with our offense we should be able to get Glenn out after 6 innings or so. This is where it gets good. If we got beat somewhere on the weekend, the final game is Monday. Eades is a no doubt one game and done type of pitcher. Meanwhile, Glenn is the type of pitcher that could still be effective on 2 days rest. With a shortish-type outing on Friday, Glenn would be able to pitch the if needed game on Monday.

Now that Mainieri has declared Eades his game 1 starter, I think that he has sent us a signal about his Super Regional pitching rotation. I think it's Nola game 1, Eades game 2, and Glenn game 3. There is no reason to pitch Glenn on shorter than normal rest, especially if Nola wins game 1 of the Super.

I seriously doubt this would happen. I think all of the big 3 are "one and done". There is no Louis Coleman or Jared Bradford on this staff. All of Glenn's appearances this year have been starts...so they haven't even experimented with having him pitch twice the same weekend. It would take an all-out clusterfrick to see the Friday starter come back Monday....and it's not going to be Glenn, anyway.

Glenn hasn't done it because LSU hasn't needed it. If you lost on Sunday, you still have to win one on Monday. If your season is on the line, Do you want to send Newman to the mound, or Glenn who probably threw about 70-75 pitches two days earler. If you lose on Saturday, you have to win three games on Sunday and Monday. You would definitely need Glenn.

I agree on that point, if you ended up in that monday elimination game, Glenn is at least throwing a few innings.

Well, Mainieri is going with Eades, so let's just handle this regional in three games. 3 and 0 sounds good to me.

I like this. He will pummel this team and it's a good confidence builder. Glenn is a better pitcher right now but he hasn't been put in a big pressure situation like this in the regional. You don't know what Cody you will get. Eades has seen all this before and he needs to build confidence. We need 3 pitchers and we have it right now. Honestly, I don't really give a damn if he used Glenn here either. I think he'd rather have Glenn pitching in the third game because we'll likely be playing the second best team in the regional anyway. Eades will walk through his start Friday.

More interestingly, this looks like the lineup for Super.

I like this pitching rotation. Baseball is unpredictable, so all you can do is play the odds and hope that things go according to plan. On paper, any of our three weekend starters should be able to beat Jackson St. Nola is our ace, so he has to throw the marble game. ULL is the number 2 seed, so you assume that we'll need to beat them on Sunday. Glenn handled them earlier in the year, so it makes sense to save him for Sunday. That means that Eades should go first against Jackson St.

If we get surprised in games 1 or 2, then we have Glenn to pitch the elimination game on Sunday and hope that our remaining pitchers can beat the number 3 and 4 starters for whichever team comes out of the winners bracket. Let's hope that it doesn't come to that.

From that Russian guy yesterday...

Eades.

JS has 7 right-handed batters in their starting lineup.
