Remember when Sid Crocker was the Voice of Tiger Stadium? (Pre-Dan Borne) TGBFTL used to yell up to him in the third quarter "Hey Sid! What's the attendance?!" He would the announce "For my friends in the band tonight's attendance is..."

Some of my favorite Sid Crocker announcements that I can remember went something like these.

"Doctor #131, Please call Medical Exchange.

"There is a white chevrolet impala in the south stadium parking lot license #137A214, your lights are on, your engine is running, and your car is locked.

In 1974 the Tigers played Utah in the final game of the season, following the Tulane game which was normally the final game. It was about 32 degrees at gametime with a light drizzle.

When the Tigers ran out of the tunnel to begin the game Sid announced them as:
"Ladies and gentleman, Here come the Frozen Tigers of LSUUUUUUUUU.

"Alexander ROARS around the right side and is stopped for no gain"

"Here's a little counter reverse option to the right. The play works but it gains nothing. "

He was the king !

I had the opportunity to sit and talk to him one to one basically for an hour a couple of years before he passed. That guy was money. He still, at that age had a great voice, and i listened intently to every story he told about his past experiences with LSU. An evening I will never forget.

That's the way I remember him too.... used to sit in the car and listen to night games on WWL in the 60s and even as a kid I knew he was about five seconds behind the action. TS was about the coolest and most mysterious place I could imagine... John Ferguson helped make it that way for me.

Yes! The drum cadence- whatever happened to that? It had the crowd in it the whole time the Tigers had the ball- bring that back!!!

John Ferguson's voice was LSU football to me growing up, still brings back vivid memories - for some reason, I remember how he always said "peenalized"; made fun of it until I found out it was the correct pronunciation. After calling some HS games on the stadium PA, I'll never criticize a play-by-play guy again.

And from the band, directed to the press box:
"Hey Sid - are you a turtle?"
