Per Bryan Lazarre, Battle will be reclassified as a Junior for 2017.

I doubt if he stays if he has a big year but that's always good to know you got another year to try again

He wont need the extra year unless injury. He is a good safety who should be drafted pretty early with a good year from him.

Shouldn't have dropped that touchdown.

IMO I could easily see battle getting a top 3 round grade. If top 2 I doubt he'd come back for a 5th year, especially if he graduates. He'll have all the experience you can ask for and his measurables aren't going to change much if that's what's keeping him from grading higher.

I'm very high on battle, think he has great range. Hope he has a breakout year and gets paid.

ETA: wouldn't mind him staying obviously.

he only played in one game as a true freshman and the NCAA is allowing that to count as a redshirt season.

excellent news...he is a damn good player and if he wants to stay another year, he can do so.

Am I the only one that has never seen John Battle actually make a play?

In his defense, I've never seen him give up any big plays either.

He seems to be in the mold of Stefan Francois and lamar Louis where they are always on the field but they never really have any flash plays. On the other hand, you can't ever point to anything they are doing wrong.

Just to clarify, I don't dislike Battle, just rather indifferent on him.

Didn't he make the first interception of the year versus Wisconsin? Or was that Ricky Jefferson?

Homerism about it. He hasn't shown anything that would make him a top 3 round pick, sorry. I would like to see it but nothing he has done has shown that. Maybe we'll find out this year.

Got a pick against Auburn too. He's a veteran, he'll be good to have around. Think Ron Brooks type of contribution. I know Brooks was a CB and Battle is a S, but similar situations. Brooks didn't have many starts but provided quality depth and experience. Battle may get beat out by these young studs at some point but he's a seasoned body to have around. Not 3rd round pick material (yet) but no reason he won't get a shot in the league.

He's been a solid robin to Adams batman and that is it. Similar situation Craig Loston was in when he played next to Eric Reid. Let's see how he plays when he's the guy in the secondary before we call him a top 3 round pick

I'd argue that Loston at least flashed at times with big hits and an interception here and there.

Battle doesn't flash. But like I said earlier, not flashing isn't always a bad thing. I sure as hell would rather see Battle get another year than Danny McCray or Karnell Hatcher.

Save me the BS about McCray having an NFL career. I'm happy the guy found his niche in the league but that doesn't change the fact that he was a bigger liability in coverage than Ryan Gosling in Remember the Titans and we didn't have Petey to come in and save his arse.
