Joel Klatt on why the season should NOT be cancelled

Here is a video of Klatt explaining why the season should NOT be cancelled. I don't really care for the guy, but since his thing is the BIG 10 I think its really important for his explanation to really get out there if we want a football season. Ultimately, the college football season being played this fall is being decided by non football people.

Watched a segment on getup this morning, Dan Orlovsky basically called all the conference presidents spineless for their lack of leadership.
Posted on 8/10/20 at 12:26 pm to patawan
they are spineless liberals

I agree with him, but Klatt isn't really a Big 10 guy. He played quarterback for Colorado and deals with west coast football with Fox.

I only said that because I thought the network he's on usually just covers big 10.

Actually it requires more leadership to make an unpopular decision. This has nothing to do with liberal v conservative politics. The university presidents have their scientific and medical experts advising them and that’s what is driving the decision.
Does anyone really think the Universities want to lose the income CFB provides? Of course not.

Klatt is talking on the Herd right now and making completely rational and evidence based arguments. He basically said if colleges claim they’re canceling bc of safety, then they’re being completely dishonest and actually doing a huge disservice to the players.

While I agree with him on this position, F that Anti LSU mFer. Only ones worse in the media are Vitale and Glenn Gilbeau

You're correct that its not about politics, but more about money. After looking at everything I've seen today, it seems the presidents and AD's are more worried about what could happen if the shite hits the fan during a cfb season. Basically they would be held liable if any players die from covid-19.Those kind of lawsuits would definitely hit the big money...These guys are just trying to CYA...

His tweet the other day calling out CFB media types was spot on too.

Many in the CFB media have worked hard to push panic and fear...Seeing many prominent players push back tonight...good for them!

I read earlier this morning that people under 70 have a .04% greater chance of dying from Common Flu than they do of dying from COVID. If that’s true shutting down a sports, schools, the economy ect. has nothing to do with data driven science and everything to do with politics.
Unless they are going to let 70 plus year old over weight diabetics start playing collegiate athletic’s I don’t think scientific data is driving this train.

Dude they don’t know anything about this virus other than what they’ve learned in 7 months. They were ventilating patients immediately right from the start and realizing that wasn’t the best approach and patients werent coming back from it. Now they aren’t rushing to ventilators unless it’s critical and they are rolling people around in their beds, getting them off their backs to increase oxygen flow before rushing to vents.
They are trying to figure out if people’s immune systems are killing them by going into hyperdrive.
You are comparing data on flu that’s been around for decades to a virus that just popped up 7 months ago. It’s not surprising that medical people are just saying best to avoid getting it than to assume it’s going to be just like a bad virus when they don’t really know enough about it yet.

So.......7 months of data showing that the chances of Covid-19 causing serious damage or complications for the average college athlete aren't enough?? How many months/years of data will we need to decide that it's okay to take the training wheels off?
