“A big part of my legacy here is going to be who I hire as football coach,” Alleva told Tiger Rag in an exclusive interview. “You know what? I don’t know how good that person is going to do. No matter how good they have been in the past, you don’t know how they are going to react to the pressure at LSU, because there is enormous pressure at LSU.”
This part made me lol
quote:
“I think there’s a lot of similarities to be honest with you, because a quarterback is only as good as the rest of his team,” he says. “You can have the greatest arm in the world but if the receivers drop the ball and the line doesn’t block, you ain’t worth a crap.
This part made me really lol
quote:
“People can say anything – ‘sources say’ – but there’s no source. They just make something up. There was a story that came out in New Orleans the other day about who we were talking to about a football coach. That guy who wrote that has no clue. He has no clue. He just wrote that. He has absolutely no clue.

“You don’t know how they’re going to react,” Alleva says of coaching hires. “You don’t know how they are going to change. Sometimes people get a job, and it’s their dream job – I’ve had this happen before. I was with a guy. He worked his arse off to get the job. He worked and worked and worked. Then he got the job, and he totally changed. You never know how people are going to react to a situation you put them in.”
I actually wonder if he is referencing Johnny Jones here. Jones' style at LSU resembles absolutely nothing to what he was well known for at UNT.

I always worry about anybody when they start referring to their Legacy. This to me indicated that this person is an ego maniac who doesn't have a clue what they're doing.
A real leader is busy leading and not worrying about their legacy.
I have zero confidence that Joe Alleva is going to make a quality hire.

Cringe-worthy.......just like his tenure.

LSUwag, I really agre with you! The mention of legacy is poisonous. A legacy the result of performance, NOT an objective.

How do you know the interviewer didn't ask the question about his legacy?

I'll disagree with you regarding legacy. Some of the best , most motivated and effective leadership I've ever worked with actively thought in terms of legacy and I buy into it completely. Thinking in terms of legacy is seeing beyond just the moment and considering long term ramifications (positive and negative). I appreciate that in a leader and wouldn't knock anyone for thinking in terms of legacy as opposed to just for today.
Edit - legacy , simply put, considers the future and what you leave behind. If you care , you think in those terms sometimes.

I think that is a good point. As a manager you always want to be remembered for how well you did your job from project to project. That is your legacy, it's the same thing.

uh no Joe, your ENTIRE legacy at LSU will be based on who you hire and how he does.
You are not Skip. He had National Championships to his name, you have none of that.
Your time at LSU will ONLY be remembered for who you hire as football coach.
Someone needs to really make that clear to him.

Maybe he was asked a question about it? That's usually how interviews operate
