A west coast guy with some very average seasons between a couple of CWS appearances in a much weaker conference than the SEC.

Must have been an enormous amount of upside that Woodward felt based on the interview. Nothing else makes sense about the hire.

It’s an okay hire, would have been like my 5th or 6th choice. I’m not sure why a ton of people on this board are blowing Jay Johnson now acting like we got Tim Corbin. Very uninspiring IMO. He may do some good things here, but I much rather would have had Godwin, Dan, Schloss, O’Connor than Johnson. I mean sure he’s done some good, but his track record was not on par with the LSU baseball program IMO.

I mean, if there’s an AD out there that understands the magnitude of LSU baseball, it’s Woodward. He wouldn’t make a hire he wasn’t 100% fired up and confident about

Time will tell and he’ll get his chance but this is an OK at best hire on paper and LSU should have done better.

Just don’t lower expectations

If Paul was retained then he would have been expedited to go to Omaha next year.

Jay shouldn’t be treated differently,

This right here.

Do some research. Johnson is a rising star. Very very good coach, recruiter and talent evaluator

Not to mention probably the best hitting coach in the country

It wasn’t a complaint. More of an observation. Woodward has hired proven winners at the highest level over and over again. For him not to do that with the LSU baseball hire tells me he was extremely impressed and willing to go another route with the way he hires. You can say Jay Johnson is a winner, but not in the same light as Jimbo, Kim or Chris Peterson
