Jared Poche showed his true character last night and displayed the team first attitude every athlete should have. Many seniors would have pouted over being passed up for the number 2 starting spot by a freshman and being relegated to long relief. Instead Poche set all of that aside and came into the game and just did his job. He pitched brilliantly and held the rope to keep the game manageable until the Tigers ultimately rallied for the win.

In the process Poche got the coveted win he needed to tie the school record for victories and has a chance to possibly set the new record depending on how the rest of the Series goes.

A Tiger nation salute to a great Tiger and outstanding young man who already knows the meaning of being a professional as he soon enters the next phase of his career.

I don't know many seniors on a team in this position that would pout. All the props to Jared, but you don't need to add the hyperbole to make him seem superior.

He got to pitch in a critical part of game 1 in the CWS. Why would you think he would be pouting?

That's not what happened. CPM knew the FSU hitters hit better against right-handed pitching than they do against lefties. He knew he'd need both to win that one.
Rotation likely returns to normal for the finals should we advance.

Really, he may well pitch in every game for us in the CWS. He'll be just fine with his contribution.

The point I am making is that he got himself ready long before knowing he would be needed. There are players who would let this get to them mentally and emotionally. Poche didn't and he was ready when called upon even when it was not within the usual format that he has pitched in.

Definitely deserves to go down as one of the best to take the mound for the Tigers

He also deserves credit for making the appropriate mental adjustment that allowed him to thrive in the flow of the game. It was a performance that shows his maturity, and the value that returning for an additional season can have for a player and his team.

Mainieri has to be credited with the switch, because I think he realized depending on Nick Bush as the sole lefty arm in the bullpen left a void for long relief situations like we saw last night.

When you have the versatility to play matchup ball with one of the most tenacious starters in the SEC as your ace lefty reliever, I think its easier for Poche et al to see the value in shifting roles.
