The kid has been lowering his head and lunging to tackle his whole life. Apparently nobody ever told him that's a no-no.

"He plays with heart and passion". frick that, he plays to get somebody hurt. It's a rough game, but it can be rough without being over-the-top dangerous.

I'm surprised he hasn't gotten a neck injury already, and he probably would have if he didn't start wearing that giant neck brace.

yeah, unfortunately he's going to hurt himself if he keeps playing that way. It's a disservice to him that no coaches correct that behavior.

That’s how old school football was man. The problem is you have to change and adapt, if not for avoiding penalties then for avoiding being a veggie your whole life. He was a heck of a player.

Did he do something similar against OSU? Swear I heard someone say he did.

Tiny dick roid head has some issues. Laughed my arse off when he got ejected.

That's why he wears the neck roll because he tackles wrong. I went helmet to helmet in practice in HS and strained my neck and wore a neck roll the rest of my playing days.

I learned to keep my head up after that.

If you just showed me his pads.

Without him in it

I’m giving him a targeting call the second I see That huge fricking cowboy collar.

The point of the neck roll is to keep your head from being pushed back and straining the neck when tackoing correctly with your eyes up.

For him I guess it just looks cool

Absolutely insane he's been coached that way.
I waddle around a local HS track on weekends. They have those tackling dummy sleds out there. One of them reads in bold
"Head up! If you can't see it, don't hit it."

My son plays football at school and I’m amazed that the refs and coaches don’t coach right/wrong more. All the late hits and pile ons, and out of bounds contact...not a word from the refs or coaches. Why the hell not teach the kids correctly? You can still whoop some arse, just do it correctly, do it within the rules and it will mean more to you. Hurting a player by breaking rules should be met with a 3 game suspension, not a high five.

I'm 34 and still remember sitting in a tiny classroom in Jr High watching a grainy arse VHS tape on a 8" tv about tackling with your head up.

This isnt new, cutting edge techniques

We won the Natty and I’m in a great mood. So I’ll be magnanimous. The call was correctly applied, but it’s a stupid rule. The kid didn’t deserve to get kicked out of the game and lose his chance to play in a national championship over that hit. It wasn’t dirty. If it had been an LSU player I would’ve lost my mind.

That said, this is the stupid rule we have created so everyone can feel a little bit better about players getting a CTE. It’s stupid. It does nothing to protect the players. As long as we continue to apply this rule players I can get kicked out for just trying to make a tackle.

Would look even cooler if he put his jersey over it to give it that authentic 80-90's look...

It’s not about CTE. Tackling that way will get the tackler paralyzed.
Not hitting helmet to helmet is CTE prevention.
This is about the tackler using his head as a spear like a moron

Like someone said before. This isn’t new.

The only thing new is that there’s a penalty to try to get them to stop doing it instead of just shrugging when they get paralyzed and saying That’s football.

Spearing has always been a rule, but no one made that big a deal out of it until about 5 to 10 years ago when the CTE stuff started popping up.

That call definitely would not have been made 10 years ago. I would go so far as to say it would not have been called five years ago.

After the ejection, I watched a replay of his hit on Burrow at the end of the first half and his helmet was lowered then too, he just happened to hit with his shoulder.
