How good is this years defense outside of pitching and compare it to past teams?

Don’t be a Dick. It’s college baseball. There’s literally nothing to research. What do you envision him doing to research this topic?

You’ve gotta just ignore the losers on this site.

Hills comments make me optimistic and I certainly think this years offense is improved

They haven’t really been tested yet. Remains to be seen

Tbh this is just my opinion, but that's probably what we are worst at out of pitching hitting fielding

CPM has a lot of flaws but the one thing that he is really consistent at is having a good defensive team on the field by the end of the year.

If nothing else, Hill is showing leadership qualities and encouraging confidence in his teammates. Whether anyone understands the mental aspect of the game of baseball or not, young guys feed off of support from the vets and it can translate to good on-field play. Hill is a dog, glad he’s on our team.

To be fair, we’ve got 8 errors on the year, but 5 of those were from a reliever playing 3rd.

Technically only 4 are. His other error was while pitching.

Going to the teams stats page seems like a good start

I wouldnt expect to see as strong of an infield as you're used to with PM teams. Case in point....we started the season with a pitcher playing third and Bianco is getting a shot at SS even though he never played there.

Not saying we won't be good...just I don't expect a bregman/freeman type middle Infield this year.

With our freak of nature on first base I have 100% faith in ours too.

Tre Morgan maybe one of the best defensive 1st baseman I’ve seen at LSU. He is unbelievable

Outside of strong arms, this is probably the slowest outfield LSU has had in a while. No true CF. Not that they're bad, they just don't have that plus speed that we're used to seeing.

Gio will help with that when healthy but until then we're lucky that they can hold their own at the plate.

What else would you expect any pitcher to say? Have you ever heard a pitcher say, "yeah, my defense fricking sucks."

That being said, the only absolute thing we know on defense is that Morgan is a damn stud, and Milazzo is a great defensive catcher. Can't really judge yet on anything else, except that Hellmers is likely not going to see third base again.

Here's some other too early observations though:

- Doughty looks more comfortable at second than he did last year.

- Dugas hasn't messed up in LF, but there has been some balls hit to him that he looks a little shaky on.

- Crews is a 5 tool guy.

- From a defensive stand point, Drost can't be in CF long term.

- Mainieri seems to be favoring getting the best bats in the lineup over better defensive guys. That's nice to see.

Why can’t Drost be in CF long term? Not a terrible spot for a really good bat
