Culp can kick it deep it just has zero hangtime and looks ugly. But if it goes out it goes out.

I asked in another thread but can't find it now.

I heard Gonsolin (sp) always kicked for a touchback. Does Connor Culp have the same or better leg strength? I want a guy who can kick it out the end zone if possible!

They can both kick out of end-zone. However, Jack has been much more accurate on FGs. The few misses he has had have been "small", whereas Connor has sprayed too many balls way out there. The decision was to name Jack as starter for FG and PAT and Connor for KO to spread the work load and reduce risk of injury to your "point kicker". Aside from collisions, KO is when most kickers end up with injury.

Very happy for Jack. I told him at the end of last year that he was putting up the best ball of the group, including CD. I had a good feeling that if he put in the work he would get the nod. He will end up with a scholly before end of year.

Are we really that concerned about our walk-on kicker getting hurt that we would sacrifice defensive field position on every kickoff?

I'd understand Culp kicking off if he has a better leg than Gonsoulin, but if its about injury risk I'm not buying in.

Granted, not a high risk problem, but opportunity existed to eliminate the risk. That was part of the decision making equation. Dunno what to tell you, dude.

Right and if they both can kick it deep then it's a way to get both guys playing.

So the walk on is the starting kicker and 2 scholarship kickers are not?

Once again, a walk-on PK wins the kicking duties.

Les: The gift that keeps on giving! He signed all of these kickers over the years, yet the walk-ons consistently beat out those guys.
