Taking nothing away from Aranda who often had to make up for injuries, I’ve missed LSU’s old school physically imposing defenses. Centered around the DT position and predicated on speed and pressure on the QB. I hope Pelini brings that element back. Any drop off offensively could well get offset by the defense.

Our D this year will be better than last! I’ve been saying this since December

This is the Defense O wants. And it makes total sense O wants to tighten up on D. We will not score as many points this year, but we not give as many up either. This is a smart strategy to take pressure off of Myles too.

Our secondary will be sick!
Stingley
Ricks
Stevens
Harris

That’s 4 potential 1st or 2nd round draft picks in our secndary

when we were healthy Aranda had our defense do things very few others in the country could do. with that being said, "4-3 attacking" sounds like a LOT of fun with the caliber of athlete Bo gets to do what he wants with. Also, I was always a fan of Aranda's lack of emotion. but it was inevitable CEO finds someone to match his energy. We comin'

I don't understand why our defense was so lackluster the first 2/3 of last season but it was spectacular by the end of the season. Those last four games, against some solid offenses, were very impressive. Delpit was a factor but the turnaround was clearly more than one player.

People overlook that the 2019 defense wasn’t playing that well early on. It wasn’t the scheme but some of the players just weren’t executing well. Aranda did a great job last year of adjusting to what we had. The Clemson game and how he shutdown Trevor Lawrence was next level stuff.

We gonna miss pass rushing ends we are thin there defense will miss that part this year. That pass rush makes them dbs look good. The good we have some big bodies on the interior

Maybe I’m asking for too much, but I want a defense that creates more sacks, and more turnovers than Aranda’s defenses.

I can’t wait to get back to Bo Pelini 2005-2007 defense. Teams were scared of us.

Outside of last year (which is arguable), when was the last time we weren't physically imposing? The year Steele was in charge?

I think the Oklahoma game was more impressive. we made Jalen hurts look EXTREMELY average. everyone knew we were gonna light their D up. But the way we took over that game on both sides of the ball was what all of us knew we could do all year.

inconsistent lineups, mostly due to injuries. a number of guys were out for a few weeks after the Texas game, Harris went down and Delpit came into the year hurt. plus you got Divinity in and out every other week before just being gone for a while.

I think some complacency at times as well after we got up big on teams in the 1st half. they weren't used to such a thing.

Have y’all gone back and watched those 2005-7 games? The offenses back then were god awful. Offensive schemes have increased ten fold. Teams with way less talent than us were lining up in the I and just trying to run it down our throats. No one does that anymore.

This is like if an nba team hired a coach that was a defensive assistant on the mid-90’s knicks and all the fans started saying “God it’s about time we started holding teams to 80 points again!!”

The game has changed. You aren’t holding teams to 10 points consistently. Not in the SEC.

Also, that 07 defense got shredded several times by mediocre Arkansas, Kentucky, and Alabama. Only the 08, 13, 14 and maybe the 19 defenses were worse than the 07 defense.

You god damned right
A Bo Pelini hits, hard
Every Bo Pelini defense had that mean streak and swarmed to the ball. Targeting be damned

yeah i'm curious how we're going to get pressure if we go back to jumbo ends. we haven't seen those in some time

chief ran a 4-3 but we would have speed rushers in the 240-260 range like Mingo to get quick pressure off the line

All that talent he helped make into NFL stars and those top defenses were just so wack, ya know?

i think a lot of the fans who want the "traditional" LSU D are the ones who also said Urban Meyer's offense was a gimmick that would never work in the SEC and "air raid" passing would never win the SEC or a natty
