Obviously things can always go better or worse. But taking a 20 year sample size. Which is a pretty darn decent size. Programs like Auburn, Texas, Florida, Miami (FL), USC have won titles and floundered horribly at times during this same sample size. This one hit wonder nonsense is modern media click bait nonsense. I think the trajectory is still way way up.

2000-2004

48-16
28-12
1-0 National Championship
2-0 SEC Championships
3-2 Bowl Games

2005-2009

51-15
27-13
1-0 National Championship
1-1 SEC Championship
4-1 Bowl Games

2010-2014

52-14
29-11
0-1 National Championship
1-0 SEC Championship
2-3 Bowl Games

2015-2019

51-14
29-11
1-0 National Championship
1-0 SEC Championship
5-1 Bowl Games

Not to mention
#3 in NFL Drafts picks 126 (#2 Bama has 127)

Looking at 2005-2019 its insanely consistent. As competitive as the SEC is year in and year out, this is pretty freaking impressive. No one outside Bama has had the same level of success. Recruiting is going better than EVER. I think its easy to predict in the next five years.

75%-80% winning percentage
1-2 SEC titles
1 National Championship

I think there is so much to be optimistic of. The thing that has held LSU back from greater success has been Bama because of the best coach in the last 40 years, and an unprecedented run. If we ever changed scheduling to round robin LSU and Bama would meet in the SEC title half of the time. Not all Top programs are so lucky to stay this consistent. Not to mention we have more titles than Ohio St Oklahoma Texas USC Notre Dame during this same period. We have the AD, the coach, the resources, the talent. Now you cant start lowering the standard and make excuses for losing to Miss freaking St, but if ever there were circumstances that led to a L. It was what happened Saturday. But the program as a whole ...

The Tigers will keep rolling

Why people expect different is crazy to me. We have a pattern since 2003 and until it changes, good or bad, go with that as the expectation. It's great to hope for better but expecting it is gonna lead to disappointment more times than not.

Sure we'd all like to be 10-2, 11-1 during our off years but every program in america, other than Bama and Clemson currently, Bama over that entire period, would be perfectly happy with our last 18 years with the titles. Texas went 10-2,11-1 for a decade and won 1 title in that period. Oklahoma is in that current trend with no titles yet they are used as an example of what we long to be. I don't get it. The 8-4 years are frustrating and suck horribly but when that 4th year comes we revel in the thrill. I'll take that. We aren't Bama and sorry to break it to you but no one, ever, has been what Bama has been since Saban arrived. They are the anomoly.

We had MULTIPLE super talents last year... not immediately replaceable ...specially with the limited contact due to the virus....making it all harder to overcome.

As a competitor, you want to win every game, but that is not reality.

You have to recruit year in and year out top 5 classes to have sustained success.

No real way around it ina competitive league.

I think Saban has us ready to roll when he left Les was all over the place.

O has us going in the right direction especially if we finish strong in a rebuilding year.

Before we went 13-0 in 2019, we were at 38-14 for the 2015-2018 period.

How easily we forget most had accepted that the decline was real and that LSU was now only top 15.

Well at least O understands you have to recruit at a high level EVERY year and he is good at. Not seeing him rest on his laurels after one NC. Not saying we are gonna win 4 of the next 5 but I believe we will be in the mix more now than we have been in the past.

Well, the major difference between LSU and Bama is that currently Saban is a defensive guru and Ed knows only how to coach a position group. You may change DCs at Bama but it’s still Saban’s defense.

I does not have that luxury and unlike Dabo, he is losing his great coordinators. Dabo found ways to keep them and also to develop younger assistants to take over on the offensive side.

Again, O has not prove to be able to do that. His first DC hire is looking bad at the moment. His first tow OC hires were busts and then after hitting, might have another bust.

People claiming he is willing to make changes ignore that he has legit made 1 proven good hire to date that wasn’t already in place. All other have been questionable or failures. That costs money to pay off coaches to leave and hire new ones each time.

Also, this is going to lead to a reputation that will make top tier prospect coaches not want to come to LSU under O.

If he keeps this up absolutely we’ll be one of the perennial teams

O less you can completely dominate the recruiting game like Bama did for some long you need elite recruits and a big of luck to win a NC. Clemson has 2 incredible QB almost back to back and still only has 2.

We can still be like Bama, Clemson, and Ohio St who loses tons to the draft yearly yet still compete,.we just can't have as many leave like last year. Last year we lost 14 players to the draft and for this game the only starters from the previous season were Marshall, Deculus, and Stevens. Even with Stingley you only have four players returning and none of them at the most prominent positions outside of Stingley and Marshall.

You aren't taking into account we had horrible internal issues and a tumultuous coaching turnover in 2015 and 2016. Dabo and Saban have been at Clemson since 2007 and 2008 respectively. 2015 we were undefeated with the Heisman front runner only to be smacked around by Saban. Then that team flat out quit. Miles offense pissed everyone off, almost got fired then didn't. Then 2016 happened. Plenty of programs cratered worse with less drama. Look at Florida and Auburn. They had atrocious losing seasons coaching chaos.

The SEC

Tier 1
Bama

Then
LSU (slightly ahead of)
Florida Auburn (slightly ahead of)
Georgia

Then
Everyone else

We should feel lucky we have navigated the waters we have without a total nosedive. LSU has never had as many good things in place to be successful these next 10 years.

Oh and losing that 2011 championship to an unprecedented rematch with a DIVISION rival in modern football was unbelievably fricking unlucky and nauseating I don't know of another fan base who would've handled it any better.

If LSU wins that game, I am almost certain the 2012-16 slumps don't happen. Heck, Jalen Mills doesn't blitz and Yeldon doesn't score LSU probably wins the title 2012
